To not let dd 13 visit friend with a rescue

Sneezygrumpydopey · 08/07/2024 10:34

Crisp cane in the house.
I don’t know the parents anyway and I do not feel this breed of dogs are safe. DD literally hates me now as a few of them are going

Are they bred by Walkers?

KhakiShaker · 08/07/2024 10:43

I have a rescue dog and a stepson of same age. You’re making snap judgements here, particularly if you don’t know the dog or parents. I keep my dog on lead or take her out when stepson has mates over. They may have arranged for the dog to be elsewhere.

it’s too late for this occasion but please make an effort to get to know the parents and make an informed decision. For now, perhaps talk to other parents of your DD friends? They may know the family better and be more informed.

What’s a Crisp Cane?

britnay · 08/07/2024 11:02

Cane Corso?

Rosie7475 · 08/07/2024 11:08

A rescue Cane Corso? Absolutely fucking not.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 08/07/2024 11:09

A rescue Cane Corso? Absolutely fucking not.

My thoughts exactly.

bittertwisted · 08/07/2024 11:10

Am I the only one hoping @DinosaursDoInTheMorning children all get dogs
Some dog owners are irresponsible
Some people are irresponsible
Some dogs are unpredictable

But in the end it is your child and up to you

user675654 · 08/07/2024 11:12

No way. A group of excited kids and a rescue cane coral sounds like a recipe for disaster.

DaisyChain505 · 08/07/2024 11:20

if you mean a cane corso then you’re absolutely not over reacting. We have one that lives on our street at the owner is literally dragged about by it. I always cross the street or go the other way when I see it as I have a reactive dog however if the cane corso decided it wanted to head our way the owner wouldn’t have much say in the matter!

also the story in the news of that poor young boy about 3 who was killed by one on his parents farm in the past few years. They’ve have now actually been sentenced for neglect.

stick to your guns and don’t let her go. Invite the friend to yours or meet up outside.

What’s a Crisp Cane?

Dunno but it sounds tasty 😆

A rescue Cane Corso? Absolutely fucking not.

I’m a lifelong dog lover, but I’d be very cautious about a cane corso. Not long ago there was one in a pub where dd had gone with Gdcs. Gds, 7 at the time, asked the owner (as he’d been taught from a toddler) whether it was all right to pat the dog. The owner said yes, it’d be fine.
The bugger still nipped him!

longdistanceclaraclara · 08/07/2024 11:42

A cane corso? No I wouldn't.

Spongebag · 08/07/2024 11:44

If you mean a Cane Corso then you're not overreacting in my opinion.

Gizlotsmum · 08/07/2024 11:44

Actually it depends. We have a dog. When we have child guests he is kept separate and never unsupervised. If they are happy to segregate children and dog I don’t see an issue ( and have other friends that do the same)

TallulahBetty · 08/07/2024 11:55

YANBU. Horrible, unpredictable dogs, even when raised from a puppy. Given that it's a rescue, the risk increases even more. And I say that as someone who has had many rescue dogs.

caramac04 · 08/07/2024 12:01

I’ve met some lovely, well-behaved cane corsos but I’m not convinced if their suitability as an outright pet.
Rescues almost always come with baggage and that can mean being unpredictable.
I would want to know more about the dog and arrangements about the kids and dogs welfare. Could be a terrible mix.
Also, you are not wrong for wanting to protect your child.

Myblindsaredown · 08/07/2024 12:03

Crisp cane? What on earth is that. Do you mean cane corso?

ThrillhouseVanHouten · 08/07/2024 12:11

I prefer not to have other people's feral kids around my rescue dogs tbh.

sevsal · 08/07/2024 12:11

My children never went to houses with dogs, I was never breed specific. The danger is always there, especially with kids/young teens who have no true understanding of dogs warning signs. It just takes one hyper kid to wind up a dog to the point of attack.

mogtheexcellent · 08/07/2024 12:14

I have a rescue dog (collie) with issues. Shes 99% ok but if you walk past her at a sheep running away speed or startle her she can (actually very rarely) growl and snap. Because of this small chance I make sure she is seperated from visiting children. DD starts high school in a year and I'll make sure dog is at daycare(in laws house) if she wants to bring friends home on the days I'm working in office.

Sneezygrumpydopey · 08/07/2024 12:16

Sorry I mean a cane corso.

I am a dog lover myself but I don’t trust this breed around my daughter.
she is 13 this is a new friend and so I haven’t met her parents. Iv offered dd ThT I can speak to parents but it’s unlikely to make a difference.
she usually invites her friend here anyway because of this.
thanks for your replies it’s good to know I’m not over reacting

We had a rottweiler for 11 years. Always put out when any dc came over... Unelss she had known them since a dpuppy which a few did. Risk of unintentionally knocking over and unfair to put he run a position of doubt.

RunningJo · 08/07/2024 12:50

Dog lover and owner here, I don't think you are over reacting at all.
