Anyone who volunteers in schools or clubs

As we are nearing the end the school year, AIBU to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who does voluntary work in schools or in children’s or youth clubs?

My eldest is off to uni in September, and I was looking back on all the people who have contributed to his, and his peers, childhood as volunteers.
All the school governors, the PTA, uniformed child and youth organisations, sports clubs, social clubs, mental health and counselling. There must be a huge army of people out there across the world selflessly giving their time to make life better for others, unseen and sometimes not thanked.

I have always made sure to say thank you to volunteers, but just in case no one has ever said thank you for what you do - here is a thank you. 💐

I also know there are millions of people who work with children and young people - thank you for all you do too. Especially staff who aren’t public facing but work behind the scenes - thank you.

If you have done something that has helped someone else this year, of any age - thank you.

You are all bloody brilliant. Cheers to you 🥂

Thank you! I volunteered for years at my kids school. Every week I helped in the second hand uniform shop, I organised the discos every year and helped with the summer fair. The head always thanked us, but not a single parent did.
I also volunteered every weekend during rugby season (regional rugby club). Me and one other would cook bacon sandwiches, serve tea and coffee for the parents and do post match meals for 30 lads. The coaches/managers always thanked us.
It's the same small group of parents who do these kind of things. Rarely do other parents thank us, but are the first to complain if the service is withdrawn for any reason! Maybe they don't realise how much is done by volunteers.
Not every parent has the time to volunteer of course - I did and as my son had no father (deceased) it was super important to me that he knew I was there to support his passion for rugby.
I'm glad your son is off to new adventures. Maybe in time he will be one of the Dads volunteering at his kid's school or club!
