To think a person can be coached to fake a medical condition?

Sirine1708 · 07/07/2024 19:29

In particular the conditions that can't be ruled out using instrumental tests.
ADHD or anxiety as an example.
Coached or self-studied - obviously both methods can be used.

More info needed here I think?

Vhagar · 07/07/2024 19:30

Yeah but why?

ByCupidStunt · 07/07/2024 19:30

Yeah bad backs, thyroid problems, and depression are easy to fake.

parkrun500club · 07/07/2024 19:31

Whiplash?

But not epilepsy, if that's what you are obliquely referring to.

Thyroid problems aren't that easy to fake, they are difficult to diagnose though.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 07/07/2024 19:33

I have a bit of a headache...

...as my grimace proves.

Thyroid problems that require blood tests for diagnosis? They sure are easy to fake, just ask your blood nicely to contain specific levels of the required elements to confirm your fake diagnosis… 🤦‍♀️

Where are you getting epilepsy from?

Disagree with thyroids.

Whipcash we used to call it in the emergency services when it was an instantaneous presentation in a slow speed, minor shunt.

Soon cured by offering to cut the roof off the vehicle to get them out safely with their spine immobilised.

Funny how many full recoveries that led to vs the people who really needed the help.

To get advantage on exams, or get spared of jail like with psychiatric conditions.

I don't think you understand the implications of claiming a psychiatric condition when charged with a crime.......

I'd assume it depends on the country, offence and the diagnosis.

Could someone be coached to give a vaguely convincing account of these conditions, probably yes. Would those accounts withstand further scrutiny from those properly educated in these conditions? No. They’re so much more consuming and debilitating than anyone would ever be able to learn from a few TikTok’s or whatever. It’s so obvious when questioning people who have autism/adhd when it’s genuine and when it isn’t. There’s no coaching available to describe in the minutest detail how it affects someone who has them.

TheKoalaWhoCould · 07/07/2024 19:42

Are you the same person who was claiming ADHD isn’t real yesterday….? Hmm

No, it's very real in our family but luckily has been bearable so far.

My DD has a thyroid problem.

Her bloods are monitored monthly.

Don't see how she can fake her tsh and t3 and t4 results.

The nails and hair falling out I suppose could be faked.

Yes because there are instrumental tests to prove thyroid problems with 100% accuracy.

I don’t think it would be easy to fake psychiatric illness as professionals would spot it a mile off.
