AIBU to be excited about the Olympics

I love the Olympics and paraolympics and I'm really excited, I love the opening ceremonies, seeing all the countries together and the hope and expertise.
I never watch sport normally but will happily watch some obscure event and root for a random competitor if no British.
Anyone else?

Yes I am. Do we know if it will be on tv? For Tokyo I had to subscribe to something in order to watch it.

I never really used to watch the Olympics apart from the gymnastics and the 4x4 relays (just love them whether it be swimming or running).

Have found I now enjoy watching them more and they seem to get better and better every year.

There are some sports I don't bother with but yes I'm looking forward to them

Me! Mostly as I'll be volunteering at the Olympics and Paralympics, plus have been volunteering at the kitting out of Olympic athletes which was incredible. Picked up my uniform last week, 18 days until I go to Paris - I've picked up resale tickets for a few things so will get to see sport when not on shift

😂😂😂

You Tell 'Em, @paywalled

I'm sure all the athletes will be devastated. As will the far right.

Why would the athletes know what I’m watching?

I love the Olympics - can't wait!

Nope absolutely fed up of sport being on TV this summer.

Yabu. The Olympics are boring. Yabu to be excited about it.

I prefer the Paralympics. The interviews with the competitors afterwards are more candid and genuine; hey come as people you meet in everyday life. The able-bodied competitors on the other hand are more media savvy, and they've spent so long in a bubble doing nothing but training they're like machines.

I think they all start somewhere with media exposure.

My ds was like a rabbit in the headlights at olympics trials when he got interviewed in the medal podium for the first time 🫣

He was only slightly better the 2nd one 😂

The guy who got gold in one event ds raced is going to his 3rd paralympics so knew how to handle the questions and knows the interviewer well. Ds was glad he was next to him the 2nd time as gave him confidence - the first time they were all new to it!

Absolutely. Remember being a teenager in '96. Was a really hot summer so didn't sleep well so became an expert in judging gymnastics for a month when the games were in Atlanta in the late hours. I was calling top scores for Miller, Strugg and Nemov before the commentators were 😂
