Sunscreen liar

I'm part of a what's app group and rarely contribute.

One person asked for recommendations for suncreams. One poster pipes in and claims nivea was applied every 45 mins to an hour and she still burnt.

A few months ago she shared a Which? Article where nivea failed the test. She didn't realize it was outdated but still, I very much doubt she would buy nivea and she didn't burn (including 14 month old) with it being applied so frequently.

Shes forever sharing links about safety products and what to avoid etc.

Aibu in thinking she's being dramatic?

If a product has let me down, I sometimes look up whether others have had the same issue. Could it be that she burnt a few weeks ago, and that's when she found the Which? reviews, after wondering if it as just her as you'd not expect that result.

UK sun creams dont have safety standards

They have standards to meet under the U.K. cosmetics regulation
So you can't put an SPF 50 out and it be SPF10 or be unproven

I burn with spf 50 within an hour

I use Nivea Sun UV face shine control cream SPF 50+ and I live in New Zealand. The stuff works as far I am concerned. Incidentally, I don't think she understands how sunblock works. Say I would burn in 5 minutes in strong sunlight (well actually in NZ you can burn on an overcast day) and I'm very light skinned. So I slap on factor 50 and that that gives me 250 minutes of sun protection assuming I am thorough and I have put enough on. So that is about 4 hours and I would probably reapply in case some was sweated off or rubbed off. But after that 4 hours, I will burn regardless of how often I apply the sunblock because I have gone past the allotted time.

So say she takes 8 minutes to start to burn and she uses a factor 30. That gives her four hours and after that she will burn. Adding more sunscreen does not change the fact that she will burn. That's assuming of course that she used enough and it wasn't out of date or left roasting in the sun in the car. I have seen the most dreadful burn (from skiing) when somebody used expired sunscreen so I always check the use by date.

I did not know any of this about suncream. I just always use a high factor as I have ginger skin.
So the lady who annoys you has inadvertently taught me loads!
Hurrah!
