Would you take a newborn abroad?

30 degree heat and keep it round the pool all day every day dressed in vest, leggings and socks?

To put it in context. Baby, no more than two weeks old, with parents and grandparents, around the pool all day everyday. From a cooler European country to a much warmer one.

Impressed they've got a passport so quickly!

But it's fine, is the baby distressed? I'd assume not as you would've mentioned it with some sanctimony in your original post.

Much easier than taking an 8 month old crawler on holiday.

Enjoy the rest of your break and don't worry about others around the pool, is my advice.

Actually the baby seemed hugely distressed most of the time, I didn’t ( sanctimoniously mention it) as it’s a while since I had a newborn and didn’t know what the norm was these days.

I would! Stay in the shade, if you’re breastfeeding stay extra hydrated. You can get fans that work outdoors. Heat abroad isn’t as humid, it won’t feel as “close”. I’ve had may, June and august babies and it’s been fine! You’ll have grandparents on hand to help by the sounds of it too. Skin to skin helps babies regulate their temperature too so you might feel hot and sticky whilst feeding but won’t harm baby. Leggings and socks aren’t necessarily the best clothing choices for baby , you need regular factor 50 and long loose clothing, not skin tight like leggings.

Ohhh this was posted by a judgy onlooker rather than a concerned parent….ignore my previous post. Keep your beak out, have a Pina colada and leave a newly learning mother of a newborn alone.

Maybe the newborn would have also been "distressed" at home too. I'd take a distressed newborn next to a pool with sunshine over a distressed newborn at home in shitty overcast weather any day.

Not judging one bit. Just wondered what the norm was. Baby seemed distressed most of the day unless it was feeding or sleeping

Just out of curiosity how would you get a passport for a newborn that young so fast? I just got our baby their passport and it definitely wasn’t that fast.

Runnerinthenight · 05/07/2024 00:42

No, I wouldn't. Imagine hanging around the airport so soon post-partum and the effects of take-off/landing on a tiny baby's ears. The youngest I took any of mine on a flight was 2.

Unless it's dire necessity, it's a no from me.

HMW1906 · 05/07/2024 01:03

I took my newborn abroad (big family holiday booked before I knew I was pregnant). I didn’t dress him like that though, he pretty much spent the entire holiday in a nappy.

Now distressed added for effect as post not going your way?

AngeloMysterioso · 05/07/2024 01:11

I probably wouldn’t purely because of the faff of all the stuff you’d have to take with you.

nocoolnamesleft · 05/07/2024 01:34

There is no way on god's earth that I would take a completely unvaccinated neonate onto a plane. Too much whooping cough around at the moment.

vacay · 05/07/2024 01:43

I took my 12 week old and we've also just come back from Spain.
She was dressed in a nappy/vest sometimes. Perfectly happy in the shade.
Two weeks is very early but not my place to judge

bragpuss · 05/07/2024 01:47

the "norm" these days is to comment about other people's parenting on social media.
