While I don't really want to drag this out, you did ask...
I mentioned it, on this anonymous forum, because I don't think it was necessarily a typographical error as such (which is an error in the mechanical process of producing text, e.g., a slip of the finger on the keyboard). The letters o and e are well separated on the keyboard. This error is frequently seen, and presumably at least some of those who make it don't realise there's a difference between the meanings of the two words - in large part because you see them used in place of each other so often. It's more akin to the difficulties many people have in distinguishing between there, their and they're.
If I muddled up two near-homophones with pretty much opposite meanings, I'd appreciate being told as much, to avoid potentially making embarrassing/confusing errors later. Obviously it doesn't matter much in a post on here, but similar errors could be more consequential in a professional context and wouldn't be caught by a spell check.
I suppose my slight joke about my pedantry was supposed to make the point that I didn't regard the error as especially serious, so that the person who made the error wouldn't feel too harshly criticised. On reflection, it is apparent that I do care.
