To move 100 miles to be closer to family?

Since leaving home to go to university, I have lived quite a far distance from close family. It's not an impossible journey, but still takes up to 2 hours in the car. I have lived this distance away for over 10 years, I have since met my husband, bought a property and had a child.

Recently, I can't stop thinking about moving back closer to family, but also worried about the life I've built here and the connections I've made. I would love my child to grow up closer to family and have a close connection to grandparents and cousins etc and not being such a journey to see everyone once in a while. My husband is open to the idea as well. On the other hand I'm worried that where we currently are might have more opportunities for my children in the future, ie bigger choice of schools, more jobs. However, there is definitely more crime.

I don't know what to gain from this post but I guess just seeing if anyone has done anything similar and how they felt, did you regret it or wished you had moved sooner..?

Have a look at properties within your budget in the areas you are considering moving to. Are there places you and your family would like to live, with the amenities you would like (good schools). Do you get somethibg different / more in the prospective area (bigger garden/ house/ nice location) or not. There is no harm in exploring options.

We would definitely afford a larger house/ bigger garden in the new area. There are less schools but I don't think they are any better or worse than this area. There are a lot of positives in moving but I guess I'm scared to take the leap as it is a smaller area. I've become used to the anonymity of living in a big city

Could you do a few long weekends with family? Check out some prospective areas? See how it feels?
