To feel I can’t be bothered to parent?

I do feel guilty. Took my little ones to a group this morning. Youngest fell asleep on the way back so she’s in the car (I’m bobbing in and out intermittently to check on her) and the TV is just on for the older one.

I do normally do a lot with them and we probably will go to the park this afternoon but I feel like I should be reading or doing something constructive but instead I’m vegged out on my phone and my 3 year old is watching TV Blush

Sounds fine and normal to me! If they’re sleeping and happy to chill infront of the tv for a bit then make the most of it!

Despair1 · 04/07/2024 13:57

Sounds totally normal, don't beat yourself up! Parenting is seriously hard work and exhausting, especially for babies and young children.
Look after yourself

Everyone has days like these. Don’t sweat it.

Smartish · 04/07/2024 14:00

I mean, if your 3 year old is watching age appropriate cartoons, is safe and fed then what’s the issue here?! You’ve even been at a group this morning, it’s not like you’ve had them locked in their rooms.
enjoy your ‘lazy’ afternoon. And I say ‘lazy’ because no doubt you’ll be rushing round sorting out dinner and entertaining the little one soon enough.

JollyGreenSnake · 04/07/2024 14:54

Your child is asleep alone in a car? I would not be comfortable with that.

Nobody asked if you were

They went out this morning, a chilled afternoon is fine. I think we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to always be 'busy' these days.

WhatNoRaisins · 04/07/2024 17:09

I don't think it's good for children to get round the clock entertainment all the time. They need to learn to do their own thing sometimes too.

wanttodomore · 04/07/2024 18:02

I have to admit ‘doing our own thing’ usually involves screens Blush

@JollyGreenSnake we live in the middle of nowhere and it’s a private drive and gates … she was fine honestly. I was checking every 5 mins.

Went to the park this afternoon so feel I have some more mum points 😂

It’s January remember. Everything is harder and bleaker even than it usually is 😝

sherbertcandy · 11/01/2025 12:40

This?! There is too much pressure to do 24hr entertainment with kids lately and it is so unreal. Kick shoes off and relax, as long as kids are fed, clothed and happy just go with the flow

Except the OP was posted last July ;)

I didn’t see that it was a zombie thread!

How did it show up in active for me to resurrect 🤷‍♀️

Stressed199401 · 11/01/2025 13:12

Seen as this was posted in July was it not a really bad idea to leave the child sleeping in what would presumably be in July a not car? Why not bring little one in, not trying to judge just trying to understand.
