Is my manager been unreasonable?

I work in retail and for the past 3 years I have worked mornings 9-1. This shift pattern works well for me as I have a health condition that means I usually suffer with fatigue in the afternoons.
A new manager has started and is changing my shift pattern to 2-6, which is till store close. I rely on public transport and live in a rural area and if I worked this shift pattern the next bus would be 7.30pm and I would not be home till 8pm.
Is my manager been unreasonable?

What does your contract day? Unless your hours are specified in that they can move you to any shift they want really.

Depending on your health condition you may be able to request adjustments but it all depends on company policy and what is in your contract.

Why is your manager changing your shift pattern? It seems unreasonable on the face of it, as it’s so different from the hours you’ve been working, but does depend on what your contract says.

Grievance is the answer here. There is no reason for an established work pattern to change because some new asshole thinks they are in charge.

After 3 years that could be considered your standard hours. It's not solely down to your original written contract.

If you have a long term health condition could consider yourself disabled and ask for reasonable adjustments based on your fatigue levels not your travel arrangements though.

Generally if there’s a cases for “ the needs of the business “ then yes they can change your hours contracts tend to be very vague and don’t specify set hours

have you asked the reasoning behind the change you need to establish this before you tackle it

@RandomMess my health condition will class as a disabilty as I have had cancer.
I understand the travel arrangements are my problem but I would be worried that I would be even more fatigued than the shifts I do now as I would be out longer.
I did request morning shifts as a reasonable adjustment when i returned to work but new manager wont listen.

Have you put it in writing that you would like reasonable adjustments under the disability act?

Have you read up on your rights etc.

@rwalker the manager said that there is more workload in the afternoon than the morning but for the past 3 years it has been consistent throughout the day.
Also there are 8 of us in the team and at the moment 4 do lock ups (paid 15 mins extra) new manager wants all staff to do lock ups.

It needs to be in writing as a formal request due to your disability.

Do you have a a head office? Can you cc in HR.

They sound quite heartless, but it also might be a business need that you're not realising. Are they leaving anyone on a 9-1?
