Does everyone get the funded 30 hours at 3 years old?

Posting for traffic!

DD was 2 in May. Does she automatically get the funded 30 hours come September or do parents have to earn over a certain amount for the child to receive it?

I work but everyone in the office is currently facing redundancy so I’m starting to get slightly worried. If I do lose my job, can she still get the 30 hours so that she can go to a nursery school or will she not be eligible? I did try and look it up myself but got too confused with all the new policies! Thank you

Okay I’ve actually answered the question for myself. All 3 years olds will receive 15 hours but 30 funded hours can be claimed if you earn a minimum of £183 a week. So if I lose my job then that’s out of the window.

If the child receives DLA, how do you apply for additional hours?

If the child gets DLA, then if you lose your job, you can get carers allowance (assumingyou don'talreadydue to income), which qualifies you for the hours.

Thank you @Sprogonthetyne I don’t want to qualify for carers allowance as I rather not have it deducted from my UC amount. I will also be looking for a new job so I don’t want to apply and then let them know when I’m over the threshold, it sounds like too much hassle for me!

@Sprogonthetyne I just wanted to come back and thank you for your advice. I’ve done some research and claiming CA will be the only way for DD to get the funded hours. I’ll just have to learn to budget my money better! Thanks again x

Glad to have helped! Make sure universal credit add the carers element onto your claim, if you don't already get it. That balances out the money the deduct for receving carers allowance.
