Help! Toddler and bath toy

Dd2 has some of those bath toys which are silicone animals with little holes that let you suck up water then squirt it back out. I just noticed her sucking on the hole of one and when I squeezed it some black gunk came out Envy
I'm worried now about exposure to mould! It was only for a second and I doubt she sucked hard enough to actually get any of the stuff in her mouth but I'm freaking out a bit. Needless to say the toys will be going in the bin. She's sleeping soundly now but should I be concerned?

She will most likely be absolutely fine, an upset stomach at worst.

AllThePotatoesAreSinging · 03/07/2024 18:55

We binned all of ours for the same reason. I cut one open and it was disgusting.

Mrsjayy · 03/07/2024 18:55

She might have a bit of the runs but she will be fine this is why you need to wash out and dry off bath/water toys they are revolting

There's no way to open them up, they are just small animals with tiny holes for squirting. I won't be buying them again!

Mine used to drink out of ours 🤢 they are now 7 and 8 and have amazing immune systems, very rarely ill. I’m not saying it’s a good thing but I’m sure your DC will be fine!

Mrsjayy · 03/07/2024 18:58

I meant if you rinse them out and drip dry them upside down, although you are right they are disgusting.

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 03/07/2024 18:58

She'll likely be fine. I'm sure alot of children have done similar.

Look up green rubber toys for hole free suitable bath toys. Or hot glue gun up the holes in others.

We also use other toys in the bath. Plastic animals, watering cans, plastic teaset. Then you dont have tl worry so much about the holes and mould.

They always get disgusting. I'm past that stage thankfully but both of mine survived vile bath toys with no ill effects.

It's probably one of these things you could stay on top of by rinsing them out weekly with a mild bleach solution, but even typing that sentence makes me lose the will to live.

I guess there's been some standing water in them for a while that hasn't been squeezed out fully. Ew, so grim.

I think I'll probably just stick with plastic, easily washable ones for now. Anything that can hold water in it seems quite disgusting. I'll have to tell her that they all swam away.

OP posts:
Mrsjayy · 03/07/2024 19:03

Yeah plastic is probably better.

PanderingShitwits · 03/07/2024 19:08

I used to glue the holes up.

AhBiscuits · 03/07/2024 19:12

She will be fine but that always happens with those things, they are gross.

Goldbar · 03/07/2024 19:21

Kids do lots of this stuff... eat worms, bugs, put sticks in their mouths, lick garden dirt, eat food that's fallen on the ground. It's disgusting and you worry at the time but it probably does just help towards building up their immune systems and nothing worse, unless you're very unlucky.
