Didn’t get a good vibe from DS new school

DS is moving up to junior school I visited this evening. I thought I was going to really like it but didn’t feel that kind welcoming feel from the teachers. All they blabbed on about was attendance! DS teacher didn’t bother to get up and introduce herself. Felt very brief and basic.

I don’t know whether it’s because I’m use to the infant school and the teachers are lovely and nurturing. Is this just because of the jump from infant to junior?

appreciate any advice!

Tbh all school staff are on their knees at this point in the term. There is no good vibe in education right now - everyone is pissed off. I’d make your mind up once he starts in September and see if he’s happy. I’m sure once he’s settled with his mates in the swing of the term it’ll be fine.

If the new teachers are too pissed off to welcome you properly I'd be a bit sad tbf.

I think that’s a piss poor excuse! I work for the NHS but still suck it up and be polite on my worst days.

yesh it was a bit depressing but not sure what options we have now.

I used to teach in a Juniors and had one welcome meeting that, for a few reasons, was a complete shambles. We were actually a good school and good teachers. Wait until you're a couple of weeks into September to actually judge.

I'm not sure about this. I work in a school and although things are tough, we still provide a warm and nurturing environment for the kids and make parents feel welcome.

Wait until September, I think judging on a quick evening isn't beneficial, especially at this time of year.
However, it isn't primary school. Primary teachers are a special breed, so teachers further up aren't as overly 'nice', more just human beings. So if you're comparing it in that way, primary to junior, then no, they aren't. I'm secondary, I am a friendly teacher and known to always be smiling. But when my son started his primary I couldn't get over how cutesy and lovely everyone was. Different breed primary teachers, like children presenters. Hats off to them.
