Would you call them out? They’re absolutely lying and I have the evidence to show for it. It’s a trivial thing and a weird thing to lie about, I just have no idea why they’re not being honest!

I disagree with the opinion 'no big deal, everyone lies'.

I would cut a lot of slack for people misremembering things or being mistaken, these are not lies.

But if a friend lied to me they would seriously damage their relationship with me. I might very well not say anything not to humiliate them but I would definitely distance myself from a person who feels the need to deliberately lie to me.

They may be insecure but it is up to them to sort this out, I am not their therapist. I think I am pretty tolerant so I wouldn't judge them, and if they say 'I don't want to talk about this' I'd be perfectly fine with this. What point is there for them to lie to me then?

If trivial, no. I'd just be conscious of them having the potential to lie about more significant things.
