Hi I just wanted some opinions on whether AIBU…
we’ve lived in our privately rented house for a little while now and had notice that the landlords wanted to move in. This came as a very unpleasant shock but we’ve come to terms with it, it’s part of the deal when you’re renting I guess. Anyway…they came round yesterday to see what needs doing as there’s some stuff to do such as replacing guttering and some cracks in the external brickwork. What they’ve done though is spend over an hour in and around the house measuring up for furniture and shelving. I felt that this is stuff they could have done after moving in? We’d also told them we didn’t want them going in our bedroom and as there’s nothing in there that needs fixing. However one of them said ‘can I look in here? And before waiting for an answer, just opened the door and walked straight in! We were gobsmacked and I walked off, my husband didn’t want to say anything and the landlords were measuring up the walls etc!
I find it all quite insensitive, not planning on saying anything but just wanted to know if I’m being over sensitive or not?

I don't think it would be unreasonable for you to send them a message explaining that you are being respectful to them (by moving out, allowing them to visit once etc.) and that you'd appreciate if they could reciprocate by not going into rooms they'd been asked to avoid.

If they've got a braincell between them they'll realise the power is all in your court and bend over backwards to get you out before they want to move in.

I'm a landlord, that's awful behaviour. I'd never enter rooms in my tenants home unless I needed to fix something for them. I wouldn't even enter the house unless I had to. That's your home until you leave .

Do you have a letting agent? Explain to them that this is an unreasonable request and any further visits need to be after you have moved out.
