… to wonder the new Government ministers are likely to be?

We’ve only really seen Starmer, Raynor, Reeves and Streeting? I just realised (thanks to a different thread on here) that I don’t really know anything about the other Labour ‘big names’ who are likely to be ministers? I feel we should know who we are voting for as a whole - not just the future pm & chancellor but more of the potential cabinet members!

Who else is there? What are they like? Is it deliberate that they haven’t been seen much and if so why?

And only Ed Dave’s from the Lib Dems- but I guess there are less of them?

OP posts:
Meadowtrees · 02/07/2024 19:59

Anyone…?

Yvette Cooper is very well known. As are David Lammy, Jonathan Ashworth, Liz Kendall, Ed Miliband ...

You can look them up online. It's not being kept secret.

Shadow Cabinet – The Labour Party

The Shadow Cabinet is made up of Keir Starmer and his top team in Parliament. Take a look at the Labour frontbench and what they do.

I only know of Starmer and Raynor :/

Anotherflaminggalah · 02/07/2024 20:13

Oh and Ed Miliband as I accidentally met him recently and didn’t know who he was. And just remembered again.

Meadowtrees · 02/07/2024 20:17

I didn’t realise Cooper and Milliband were still around, I haven’t heard / seen them at all! What are Ashworth and Kendall like? I’d better start googling!

I'd guess some of the shadow ministers will take up the same jobs in cabinet.

More interested at present which of the incompetent and/or corrupt Tories lose their seats.

Meadowtrees · 02/07/2024 20:19

Thanks for the link! I’d forgotten about Thornberry too, they’ve kept her quiet! No idea who most of the rest are.

Llyn- really? I want to know who we are trusting the country with!

I think the shadow cabinet has as much experience of government as the current cabinet! amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/article/2024/jun/24/keir-starmer-labour-shadow-cabinet-government-tony-blair-gordon-brown

AutumnCrow · 02/07/2024 20:41

It's Rayner. Angela Rayner. She'll be the Deputy PM by Friday, I'm guessing, as she was elected by party members into the deputyship, I believe?

MasterBeth · 02/07/2024 20:51

No, we've seen loads of them if we've been paying attention. Don't assume everyone is as ignorant as you are.

Anotherflaminggalah · 02/07/2024 20:54

I do think Angela Rayner is quite forgettable. Though everyone can remember her face just not the name nor its spelling.

Meadowtrees · 02/07/2024 22:02

Masterbeth - nice comment. Helpful. Thanks.

She’s right though. Democracy really only works if people keep themselves informed. There’s been a fairly stable shadow cabinet for a while. They’ve challenged the government in the house and been interviewed on tv. No real excuse for not knowing any of them. Granted, it’s harder with Lib Dems because the media seem to have forgotten they exist, but I’ve seen a few of them about.

Meadowtrees · 02/07/2024 22:19

Cardibach - everyday I listen to r4 today in the morning, pm in the evening, read the bbc news and listen to the newsagents podcast. It is absolutely not up to me to do more than this in order to find out who might be in the cabinet, the Labour Party should be showing us but the campaign has been very heavily focused on Starmer and Rayner.

If you do that, then you’ll know most, if not all, of the shadow cabinet. They’ve been out there. Naturally the leader is out more, but to suggest any of them has been hidden away is nonsense.

Yeah but you’re the one who is curious about who they are, and that information is readily available from several publicly accessible sources.

Meadowtrees · 03/07/2024 06:12

Festival - yes, I’m curious, that’s why I posted 🤦‍♀️. Yes, I can read the list posted above. What I’d like is to have heard them speak so that I can form an opinion of their competence / character / motivations, this hasn’t happened so I was hoping some people on here might have some first hand experiences of some of them. That’s why I posted. But clearly no one else has either!!

You've never heard of David Lammy or Yvette Cooper?

SherbsL · 03/07/2024 06:51

Bridget Phillipson is the shadow Ed Sec - she’s been an MP since 2010. She did an interview recently on Leading/Rest is Politics podcast. Definitely worth a listen! I think she’s solid; in touch with what’s happening in society and clearly very determined.

TokyoSushi · 03/07/2024 06:57

Come on now folks, you need to self educate a bit here... watch the news over the next few days and you'll see them all soon enough.

Meadowtrees · 03/07/2024 07:23

Auntie - I said up thread that I hadn’t seen them this time round. I like Cooper, I wonder why she hasn’t been more prominent?

What do you expect them to do? Show up on your doorstep and do a round of intros?

Meadowtrees · 03/07/2024 07:38

Put them forward for interviews, rather than always the same few?
