Karen Read Trial

Anyone else been keeping up with the Karen Read trial in Massachusetts?

The jury couldn't come to a unanimous decision which has resulted in a mistrial.

I believe the crappy police work and obvious bias against Karen Read left it clear that there was reasonable doubt in this case. I also don't believe she did it.

What are your thoughts?

She's innocent in my opinion. The whole thing has been corrupt.

BusyCM · 02/07/2024 05:25

Same!

SageInspo · 02/07/2024 07:22

The defence did an excellent job at making the police look incompetent and bias.

I don't think they'll trial her again.

Yes, and I agree.

Any good links for a run down of the case?

Red-handed podcast did a good run down if you want to listen

theemmadilemma · 06/05/2025 17:26

I don't think she did it at all. Complete cover up going on.

Notsuchafattynow · 06/05/2025 17:28

How weird, I think she did do it, after listening to the Redhanded podcast.

Is there going to be a re trial?

She's being re-tried now as per the update above.

I don't understand the American justice system how can they retry someone

Phase2 · 06/05/2025 17:31

It’s day ten of the retrial. I think it’s a mess and evidence (of innocence or guilt) was lost through poor response. Not interviewing the household on the day his body was found or knocking to wake them etc (as body was on their property).

If the jury cannot reach a verdict, or serious procedural errors have invalidated the trial, a mistrial is declared and the accused can be retried. The same is true in England and Wales.

TurtlesDoNotPetsMake · 06/05/2025 17:38

The Crime weekly podcast also did several episodes about this, which was excellent. I believe even If she did run him over (she was very drunk/angry at the time) the Boston police department messed around too much with evidence. So much so, were they not even sure themselves that she did it? Do they have knowledge of someone else involved instead?
Such a shame, he had adopted his sister's children, and even Karen seemed to think the world of them.

They're literally doing the same to Constance Marten in the UK right now.

She wasn't found not guilty, there was no verdict so of course they can, same as here.

Phase2 · 06/05/2025 17:46

I don’t believe a house of people could successfully cover up a murder, or that they would stick the body out on their lawn but I also think there’s not enough evidence that Karen hit him. I’d like to have seen the Albert’s et al rules out properly and I think Proctor probably did something with the tail light.
