Hi ,today is my first parent's meeting for my daughter's primary school.
I have no idea what is going to happen . Any ideas what they are asking you or what shall I ask them?
Can I bring my daughter with me ?

It's more for you to find out how she has been getting on academically, is she working at the level expected, etc. Also, you may be able to see some of her workbooks (we usually do) to see what they have been up to and which topics have been covered. Our parents' evening is still virtual, which is another issue. However, we do get a day to go in and look at all the workbooks, and it's nice having the kids being excited, showing you everything they have done, including their artwork all over the classroom.

Set questions, which I usually ask:
Do you have any concerns regarding my child academically? Is there anything we can work on at home (if needed).
Have there been any concerns about behaviour and listening (this is more for my boisterous 5 year old).
Does my child partake in class discussions?
Have they seen any issues with friendships.

Although all of these usually get communicated throughout the year if and when needed, I have more specific questions depending on which child (for example my daughter had issues with friendships in year 2 and 3) so I really wanted to get to the bottom of that to see if changes were in place.

Hope this helps.

Do you mean you're going in to meet the teacher before your daughter starts reception in September?

I think we took ours in for our first 15 minute look around (we were told to bring him in the information) it meant he could meet the teacher and one of the teaching assistants and look around the classroom but if the school hasn't specified then call them and ask! The teacher quickly went over how dropoff and pickup work, how the school day goes and answered any questions we had (i think we asked a couple of things about the uniform that wasn't clear about the policy and about settling).

Is this ahead of her starting reception? Or is she already in reception?

If it's the former, then they'll usually ask you questions about your child - can they dress themselves, feed themselves, any issues with going to the toilet, what kind of toys do they like playing etc. I think I asked about the routine, how lunch time worked and things like that.

If it's the latter then usually they give a run down on how your child is getting on academically and socially at school. Ours are limited to 10mins though so not much time for questions!

Thank you so much I will take that on for my future meetings . What I meant was for my child starting school . She starts in September and we are having first parents meeting today .

Is it a one to one with the teacher? Or just a general meeting? We had three - one bigger meeting with lots of parents where they gave us an overview of everything, then a stay and play a week or so later for my daughter to attend with me and then a teacher visit at home a few days before she started in September.

@Jxtina86 from what I understood there will be one today ,just says parents meeting , then there will be child inductions day. They have mentioned smth about home/school visit but haven't specified that one yet.

If there is no mention of bringing children along I'd hazard a guess it will just be for parents. But definitely phone and check! Our parents meeting was purely full of info about the school day, uniform, introductions to the senior staff and then we got to try some of the canteen food...!

Oh yes that sounds familiar!

I think our first one was all the parents in the hall with no kids for a 'hello this is our school' general intro and at that we were given packs with forms to fill in and the uniform list and details of when our one to one and stay and play were.
The stay and play was before the end of term with about 10 kids and their parents for 15 or 30 mins, then the one to one was towards the end of the summer holiday and that was us and our child checking out his classroom and meeting the teacher properly, asking any questions etc.
