File folders won't fit in cabinet

Claphamcluck · 01/07/2024 02:03

I just bought a beautiful old oak filing cabinet… only to realise my folders won't fit in it. Can anyone please tell me where to get "vintage" size (A4, no wider than 30cm) cardboard document wallets please? I've looked for at least two hours online to no avail. TIA

'Vintage' size would be imperial, which is larger than A4.

A4 document wallets are widely available. Do you mean the hanging folders to put the document wallets in?

Use the search terms:

  1. A4 document wallets
  2. A4 hanging files
  3. A4 suspension files

Or do you mean you want files that look vintage but in A4 size?

Filing cabinets used to hold foolscap folders, which are wider than A4 and were usually 45 to 47cm wide. A4 filing cabinets are narrower, at 40 to 41cm wide.

If your cabinet is 30cm wide, is it designed to hold folders sideways rather than parallel with the front? How deep is it from front to back?

No I don't mean the suspension files — this cabinet has no hanging rails.
"A4 document wallets" invariably brings up folders that are 34-35cm wide, whereas my drawer (Interior measurement) is only 30cm.

That just takes me to the Amazon home page, but all my searches there have yielded folders that are 34-35cm wide.

It's definitely not one of those designed to hold folders sideways — it's 70cm deep.

Thanks. I will go for those if I can't find document wallets, but I prefer the closed type with a flap.

I'm trying to visualise what you're trying to achieve, if there are no hanging rails will the folders lie flat on top of each other

Do you have a photo or link to something similar to show what you're after

GoneFishingToday · 01/07/2024 22:01

Did you find what you need OP, only I too think you are looking for U.S letter size folders, such as those in the link given by 'parietal'

No, the files will stand up on their own if the drawer is fairly full. If not, I just put a bookend at the back of the drawer.
