AIBU to want to ban some things at Glastonbury?

Actually this applies to any big outdoor concert frankly.

Starting off with don't call it Glasto. So annoying.

But worse than that - let's just say you wanted to go to this big event and had the money to do so and won the ticket lottery so you actually were able to go. So you've spent what? £500 or something, likely more. Because there's a couple of really great acts you want to see. So you get to the are where that stage is and the concert's about to start and you're in a great spot to see everything and then the concert finally starts and YOU ARE JUST SO EXCITED!!!

And then someone starts waving a big flag, so you shift over a bit. And then there's lots of big balloon things waving about about so you shift back the other way. And then the big twonk in front of you hoists his girlfriend up on to his shoulders so you have absolutely no view of the stage what so ever!!!

So in short ...

  1. no flags
  2. no big balloon creatures
  3. no flipping twonky women (or men or children) on shoulders!!! Especially if they're wearing weird bat wings that they wave about and further block everyone's view.

Easy solution to the balloon creatures is a sharp pin to deflate.

I know FWP. But this is why I can't abide watching Glasto as I get so mad at these selfish gits.

Unfortunately yes.
If you get splashed by a cup being thrown you have to pray it's beer and not piss! 😩

Yikes. Would something this help? Or does it go everywhere?

The best thing about Glastonbury is that there aren't loads of rules.

SellFridges · 01/07/2024 14:30

The flags are on massive poles, they hardly affect your view at all.

People with umbrellas in crowds on the other hand should be put in the bin.

Irony perhaps?

In other words no one is allowed to have any fun at Glasto according to your rules OP

No, you've missed the (what I thought was obvious) point.

Everyone should be allowed to have fun and that includes being able to see the stage without wankers bobbing their butts on someone's shoulders or otherwise purposely blocking the view.

You just called it Glasto.

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 01/07/2024 14:36

I so agree! So annoying to not be able to see

Itsnotmeanttodothat · 01/07/2024 14:41

I watched it on TV, which is shit anyway compared to being there. My mind did wonder at points, thinking those big massive long swishy wings must be annoying someone and blocking out their view. Then I saw flags and thought bet that's really frustrating to be near. I got very distracted by all the flags. I ended up switching it off in fact as everything was annoying me.

AND those poor buggers who have to hoik someone's arse onto their shoulders for ages. Imagine if they farted. Grim.

FluffyJellyCat · 01/07/2024 14:43

At festivals I have been right down the front and still seen nothing. You watch the screen. It's the atmosphere. Imagine your 5,4 like me. Even with no flags, balloons and people on shoulders you can't see Jack shit. But your with your mates dancing and everyone, everyone is in your mindset. It's an amazing feeling.

WoolyMammoth55 · 01/07/2024 14:44

I actually live in Glastonbury (not Pilton, where the festival is) and we mostly get offers to work there in some capacity every year if we want to.

The kids are small right now so I've been too tired for a few years, but pre-kids I have been a fair few times. It's a very fun festival and there's none (or at least, very little) of the antisocial "lager lout" hideousness that seem to characterise Reading/Leeds and some of the other 'big' music festivals.

It's a very mellow, slightly druggie, fun party-loving crowd of hundreds of thousands of people, listening to some absolutely world-class music and having a lovely time.

A few (even a lot of) flags and some shoulder sitting doesn't ruin the experience for anyone whose actually there, IMHO. They're loving the atmosphere and there are massive screens to watch anyway if you can't see the stage... Or you could even just - MOVE?! You're in a field not an allocated seat!

If you're not there and are just sitting on your sofa watching the Beeb and getting in a tizz about this then honestly I think you'd be best off giving your head a wobble..

To be fair, one of the best flags I ever saw said 'Gary Lineker shags crisps'.

That was a brilliant one! The flags are apart of the experience, love looking out for the funny ones.

'bobbing their butts' 😂

So, were you there or have you been and experienced such shit, or are these merely armchair criticisms?

I wasn't there and have no desire to go and sleep in a muddy field or even a glamping tent. I have been to concerts where some entitle twonk stands up blocking my view with his arms up with his camera to film everything while talking to his mates loudly about how bad England are doing in the latest sports extravaganza. (so no view and can't hear the band). I've even been to "classy" concerts where some entitle woman's hair and/or hat has blocked my view too. Can't do much about big hair but I don't like being tutted at when I ask politely if she could lose the bonnet.

And other than that I'm just an angry opinionated person. 😘

There was one this year that said "ban flags"

JustCleaningtheBBQ · 01/07/2024 17:40

They should ban the plastic light up wristbands (Coldplay, should know better). Not good for the environment.
