To worry about living near a drag racing venue?

We have offered on a beautiful home with period features in a semi rural setting that seems perfect. However we have driven there today and were dismayed and slightly horrified to hear the roar of cars like a formula one. It appears there's a drag racing venue as the crow flies 2-3 miles away. We were not aware of this. We have looked at the website and it says there are lots of events most weekends from 8am-4pm. I was seeing my little fantasy of a quiet contemplative glass of wine in the garden vanishing in the exhaust! Is there anyone out there who can reassure us that it's not actually that bad noise pollution wise to live near a place like this? Otherwise it's a country idyll. The house itself is £400k

My friends live near Donnington and it is LOUD. Up to you if you can tolerate it or not.

A friend used to live near Santa Pod, and we managed Sunday lunch in the garden on a fairly regular basis (the house was to the NE of it, so upwind, and yes you could hear it, but intermittently, in the distance. On days when the wind was in the other direction you couldn’t hear it unless you were trying to.

I am really intolerant to noise like that in the countryside, I love peace and quiet and birdsong, but honestly, they, and I, got used to it. Next door to it no, but a few miles away is manageable…the trouble is these days there is noise of some kind everywhere except even the most remote locations…

You’ll definitely be able to hear it.

If it's near to santa pod, then I know they have done a lot of work to reduce the event noise, including limiting the volume car engines are allowed to run at for competition cars, but it is still loud, especially when they run some of the more speciality vehicles like the jet funny cars and bikes. They also regularly have monster trucks and aerial displays, as well as a big bonfire night firework event. And if you are on the main route to the site, then there will also be a lot of traffic to and from the events as well, Friday evenings, Saturday mornings and Sunday evenings will be particularly bad. You might want to factor that in to any commuting you will need to do.

If I were you I'd head over to the area when one of the events is on and see what it is like, and whether you feel like you can live with it.
