To try to return / get compensated for vehicle

that has been an endless source of stress, upset and great expense since purchasing it in 2019?

People have mentioned that you can return a vehicle up to 6 years after purchase if it is not fit for purpose, but is this fact or rumour?!

We bought a camper from a high end manufacturer with an early inheritance, our dream vehicle, but despite being low mileage and well looked after, there have been endless major works it’s needed.

On a commercial base vehicle, that one would expect to easily do 100,000 miles without major issues, it’s been a literary of problem after problem, requiring quite major components / parts replacing, costing thousands in labour as well.

Fiat did actually provide the parts free of charge for one of the major systems, but without accepting liability for anything, and still left me with a substantial labour charge, but now yet another major system has issues and it’s crazy to just accept it, but do I have any other choice??

please be gentle, I’m so upset by it all, and hoping can find some advice.

thanks

How did you pay for it?

If it's on a credit card you may have a claim.

Trading standards may be able to advise on goods not being fit for purpose but it may be too late since you bought it in 2019.

According to Google it's 6 months not 6 years. I might be wrong but I cant imagine for a minute you'd be able to return a car that was up to 6 years old

Squiggles23 · 30/06/2024 04:58

Was it new or used when you brought it OP? Most new cars have a guarantee period but usually just a few years I think.

If you could prove the fault was there when you brought it you might have a claim but I think it would be difficult.

You won't have a claim after 4 years unless this fault was pointed out when you first purchased it

Vehicles get faults, that's just the way it is

I would get this fixed and sell up if I was you
