Am I in the wrong?

I was looking after my granddaughter (4 months old, 5 months in 5 days) whilst her parents (my daughter and SIL) went out for a date night.
The baby was extremely unsettled and wouldn't drink her milk. It was 90 degrees in California. So I decided to give the baby an ounce of water from her bottle.
My daughter and SIL are mad at me because they wanted to make it a special occasion. Now I'm afraid they'll ban me from seeing my granddaughter and I can't stop crying.

No you most definately are not in the wrong.

I would be so relieved that my mum/mil was trying her best to keep my child happy and comfortable.

WavingTree · 29/06/2024 16:29

Eh? They wanted water to be a special occasion?

WavingTree · 29/06/2024 16:30

Anyway, I’m sure this will blow over, it’s really tricky with other people’s babies!

fishingfor · 29/06/2024 16:30

Makes no sense.

DeadbeatYoda · 29/06/2024 16:30

This is PFB stuff, lots of people get a bit wrapped up in it. You did the best thing for the baby that's much more important than getting an Instagram reel out of baby's first drink of water.

AtrociousCircumstance · 29/06/2024 16:31

Hey OP. Wanted to make giving her water a special occasion? Or the date?

Advice is water over six months old. Did you boil it first?

However you’re a loving grandmother wanting to help in any way you can by the sound of it, and your DD and partner are being over the top and pretty ungrateful. A gentle chat about what to do going forwards is all that’s required. I’m sure they won’t stop you from seeing your GC. Did they say that they would?

LadyWhistled0wn · 29/06/2024 16:32

No you're not wrong. They are. What if she got dehydrated?! You did the right thing they are being weird.

TheShellBeach · 29/06/2024 16:35

Babies don't need water at that age but I don't think it would have harmed her.

Ahhhhhbisto · 29/06/2024 16:41

Just want to point out that the babies don't need/shouldn't have water under six months only really applies to breastfed babies.

Am I in the wrong?
Wordsmithery · 29/06/2024 18:06

They're being ridiculous. They are lucky enough to have you to babysit and they make a fuss about water? What the actual fuck! They'd have preferred their baby to become dehydrated? Well at least you know now, I suppose.

Adviceneeeeded · 29/06/2024 18:26

This is a PFB thing. The fact you successfully grew a human being before and they trust you with their child should be enough for them to know, you know what you are doing.

It will blow over! You didn't do anything wrong.
