Car accident report

I'm posting here for traffic.

Today myself and my daughter were driving along a main road, when a driver from a right side junction pulled out infront of us and we very slightly hit him. I slammed on the breaks to avoid him and we both have whiplash and my daughter has chest bruising from the seat belt. The driver left the scene without stopping, however my daughter got a photo of his car and number plate.

I've just reported all this online to my local police force.

I'm just wondering what do I do now, just leave it and wait for the police to contact me? Or do I tell my insurance and do they get in contact with his insurance, or do we have to wait for the police to get back to us?

I've checked online and he is insured.

Many thanks for any advice

I’m glad you and your daughter are okay. Report to your insurer with the police incident number and photos of the plate of driver. This should get the ball rolling as police will be super slow on this. If you attended GP or A&E post accident or have worsening symptoms also report to insurer and surgery.

If you went into the back of him then it will most likely be taken to be your fault.
Did you actually hit him?

How could it be my fault, when he pulled out in front of me? I didn't hit the back of him, I hit the side of him

She said she hit him and also that he pulled out of a side junction so it shouldn't be considered her fault. But with no witnesses or dash am the issue might be proving that.

@Coldfinch

Thank you, I'll do that now

Does your car have any damage?

Does your car have any damage?

Just some to paint work, scrapes and scuffs etc

You’ll be very lucky to hear back from the police. As others have said I would recommend contacting insurers and let them chase this up.

ExtraOnions · 29/06/2024 16:48

Have you been to the hospital to have your whiplash diagnosed ?
Be sure to take photographs of any bruising, as well as pictures of the damage to you car.

If you are planning to make a personal injury claim, as well as claiming repairs to the car, you’ll need evidence.

If the driver has no damage, and there is no dash cam or CVTV, it might be hard to prove. Go back and see if anyone has a ring doorbell that might have caught it.

Yes we did, my neck isn't too bad but my daughters is hurting quite a lot. Thank you.

I dont think there will be any footage as it was on a country road, no one else about etc.

I'm hoping they will just admit it. Happened a few years ago, a guy went into the back of us and drove off and the police tracked him down and he held his hands up to it.

There's not much damage to our car, however my insurance have said as its an old car it will be classed as a write off.
