Hey! I'm about to take my first proper job as a nanny but just want to see if what I'm being offered is reasonable as I genuinely have no clue! So its live in (really nice accommodation), all board included and hours are 7.30- 5/6 with a few hours off in the afternoon. The pay is £750 a month, is this normal with all food ect included or is it low? Thanks!

Are you actually being employed as a nanny or are they trying to employ you as an au pair?
You say you'll have a few hours off, how many hours will you actually be working? They still need to be paying you minimum wage. Are you in the UK ?

My DD is a live in nanny. Works 55 hours a week with accommodation, bills and most food included. Earns £38k.

User478 · 29/06/2024 21:34

50 hours a week?

So £3.75 an hour?

They are allowed to offset £69.93 a week because it is live in.

At minimum wage that should be £572/week (minus £69.93 = £502.07 per week) or £2008.28/month

Run!

There are 22 working days in the average month, and you're working let's say 10 hours a day, so that's 220 hours for £750. Even taking account of accommodation, do you not think you're worth more than £3.40 per hour? I earnt more than that babysitting in my teens..........

BirthdayRainbow · 29/06/2024 21:36

That's very low.

PeloMom · 29/06/2024 21:38

I’m in Canada, not uk, but here the law is that I cannot pay a nanny, even a live in, below minimum wage.

MrsPinkCock · 29/06/2024 21:38

You’d have to be working no more than 21 hours a week for that to be legal (taking into account the accommodation offset if you’re live in).

it sounds horribly exploitative to me and they will probably be terrible employers. I’d walk away.
