Just looking for initial opinions, because NHS 111 (website) advised to go to A&E but I don’t think I need to go…

I am going through an extremely stressful situation at work, literally from the day I discovered this problem at work, my heart rate has been really high. I have an Apple watch so can see the change in trends and have had numerous high resting heart rate alerts. I am under the most stress I’ve ever been in, so I don’t think there is any physical cause aside from work.

my symptoms are my heart is constantly fluttering and my mind in overdrive and I can’t rest well. Sometimes I feel breathless. I’m sure that I’d feel more calm once the problem at work is over/I get a new job. It really is a horrible problem, enough to cause very high stress. Therefore is there even anything the GP can do to help? I don’t think I need to go off sick, rather just see what the next few weeks hold in case I get more clarity.

How high is really high? I had a GP think the rapid heartbeat I described was stress. When my heart was listened to during an episode, it was not stress. I had Supra Ventricula Tachycardia. I would suggest getting yours checked!

How fast does it go and does how long ?
You need to see a gp and be refered for a 48 hour ecg to rule out things , I have SVT but it’s definitely worse when stressed , you may have developed a disordered breathing pattern which will cause breathlessness and palpitations…. But I’d suggest gp for a referal
Unless your heart remains high for many hours or is irregular , a and e can’t really do anything

Can you take any time off, even a day or two in the immediacy, to focus on you, try some relaxation strategies. I’ve also had palpitations recently, on and off for 6 months now, and at times of significant stress.

The GP never minds checking out your heart, and if it is stress you can take propanol which should calm your heart rate down and help you feel a bit better.

No job is worth having a heart attack over.
