Stage school end of year play

Hi. I’m not sure I am being unreasonable here. Both kids 6 & 8 attend a stage school. A local one for 90 minutes a week. I received an email this afternoon regarding the end of year panto. I assumed all the children would be given a part. Even just a small non speaking part for the younger ones. It turns out we have to pay £120 per child for them to audition and they aren’t guaranteed a part. Is this usual? Each week starting from the autumn term they will be rehearsing. What will happen to the kids who don’t have a part? Aibu to be a bit annoyed about this?

Don't pay it then. It's a free choice, not a tax.

Good god is it you do you own the stage school ! So grouchy for a Sunday morning.

In other activities its normal to pay £10 or £20 for a try-out lasting a couple hours to try to make a more advanced team or class. Fair enough, your paying to cover coaches time, venue, etc. But... £120??!!!

I'd be looking for an alternative club - Im happy to pay for an activity, but not be ripped-off. I'd be asking "to confirm, the £120 audition fee covers only the 5 minute audition and your time in decision making?" as soon as I'd found a viable alternative club.

These theatre groups are a bit disappointing in that sense. We paid £340 a term for one and mostly they focused on one or two children. Equally, there was no actual show or theatrical performance with a script and costumes which in our mind was the whole point!
