To think we've got too used to politicians that shout and sling mud?

I've seen loads of criticism about starmer that he's not charismatic, too wooden, boring. A few of my friends said they wouldnt vote Labour or lib dem because they think the party leaders are boring and not personable. This isn't about whether you like starmer etc personally or not but am i the only one hoping for a return to the good old days where a politician being able to express themselves calmly and in an adult manner is be valued? Have we all got too used to the insults, shouting and mudslinging over the last few years?

I think it'll be nice to have a steady, boring, predictable adult in charge again because polls still show a huge landslide for labour.

The tone of political debate generally is truly awful.

I don’t get the people who don’t vote for parties where they find the leaders boring. You’re voting for a prime minister, not for someone to go down the pub with or to be your best mate. Puerile.

Yes, watching them on tv is like watching kids in the playground slinging mud or a roast battle, it's ridiculous!

If exciting and dynamic is Johnson, give me boring any old day.

Even the physical setup lends itself to confrontation rather than collaboration. The other side is called the opposition. The language we use frames the situation too.

Well yeah, their job is to oppose. Opposition isn't a bad thing, it used to be about challenging and improving legislation. It's only really during the current Labour Opposition that it has come to mean "reject and criticise everything the government do but come up with no alternative."

The whole idea is that the Opposition should not allow the government to just do what they like without challenge. Without an effective Opposition the government is basically a dictatorship.

Yes and no. What we’ve really ended up with are politicians who say their opponents idea doesn’t work without actually saying what their idea is. It’s really easy to point out the wrongs with what someone is saying and not actually say what you’d do and people fall for it. It’s what Farage does. I actually challenged my local MP on this once when he was round knocking doors (he’s quite good to be fair and I do like him) when he kept on saying “the conservatives are bad at this, they don’t do that” etc. I wanted him to say what would be done differently rather than just pointing out the current flaws.
