To ask if anybody has had a rectal prolapse that can offer some advice

I've been diagnosed with a rectal prolapse. I had the most horrific first appointment with a private specialist today who turned out to be someone who only dealt with vaginal prolapse and ended my appointment with a very inappropriate sexual remark. However that's a story for another thread.
So after my appointment I feel like I'm no clearer on what I need to do. I'm at a point that the prolapse only happens when I go to the toilet but I'm having quite a bit of pain, accompanied by mucus and bleeding. From reading online it seems that this kind of thing only gets worse not better? Has anyone had this and had successful treatment/surgery?

See a private proctologist.

I would recommend a women’s health physio who has expertise in this area. Way more knowledgeable in my experience. Don’t give up hope. There are exercises which can help and they can fit you with a pessary for exercise if needed.

Sorry to hear you're suffering. I have a rectal prolapse too and am waiting for a referral to come through. Been 7 months so far. I realise yours may be worse/different to mine, but I have a little thing called a Femeeze (I think) which is incredibly helpful when going to the loo. Got it from Amazon, was about £20. Sorry if you've already got one/discounted this but worth mentioning.

Other than this, I'm doing more pelvic floor exercises than ever which are definitely stopping it from getting worse, and awaiting consultant opinion. Apparently it'll only be along the lines of keep doing what you're doing, but it's no fun. Hopefully someone else will have more helpful insight! X

Thank you. I will be trying to find a physio to help. @EmeraldDreams73 I'm sorry to hear you are suffering too! Thank you for the recommendation I will have a look on Amazon now

@EmeraldDreams73 sorry to reply again but does it assist with rectal prolapse as I've just had a look on Amazon and it says it helps with rectocele but doesn't mention about rectal prolapse. I do actually have a rectocele aswell but my main problem is my rectal prolapse as it is completely blocking my rectum when I go to the toilet.

Look up the hypopressive method, it’s a breathing technique that is supposed to offer relief for various types of prolapse - apparently more effective than pelvic floor exercises

Oh I'm sorry, the nurse referred to mine as rectal prolapse, but I've just googled and it's a rectocele. The Amazon thing is great for that but I'm even less help to you than I feared :( Really sorry but I hope someone else has some suggestions, must be incredibly difficult.

I 100% recommend a "Mummy MOT", I have somebody I went to see who I think would be able to help you - they were insanely helpful for me and could tell me things about my body just by how I was standing, before they gave me an internal exam. Id been to see a number of health practitioners before them but advice wasnt very effective. I will message you their details privately.

The advice I got was that different muscle groups: core, glutes & hips all work together and when they're out of balance, a prolapse can occur. So it's not just about kegels, a number of exercises can contribute to improving it.

Hypopressives are not well known about, but I second @thesmedsandthesmoos's comment on them - I can see significant movement down there when using a mirror even though i can't feel it. YouTube has some good videos, they take a couple of months to kick in

@mintcalipo thank you so much I really appreciate you sending the details!
