To think he wants to call our baby after his crush?

Been with dh over 10 years and I may be reading too much into this but when we first met we talked about crushes and I told him about a teenage crush I once had and he told me about his childhood crush.
Anyway ffwd over 10 years and we're expecting our first baby which is a boy.
Dh suggested a nice name and we've both agreed on it for a while but it's just occurred to me that it's shortened form is the same name as his childhood crush but a male version think Sam, Joe, Alex sort of abbreviations.
It has been a long time so could be coincidence but it's made me wonder if he's picked that name because of her.

Well I know that but they’re too similar imo.
If you had two DD’s you wouldn’t name them Emma and Emily.

People do - and far more similar than that - I've seen examples with the names changed because they would be absolutely identifying in their combination genuinely on a par with

Adele
Adela
Adesa
Adesia

Leanne
Reanne
Ciann
Sienna

Why are you asking us? Ask him!

I will forgive you because you are pregnant and honestly I went a bit batshit when I was.
..... so, with love, you sound absolutely cray cray. Just to spell it out you are concerned that your husband has suggested the boy's version of a female name that happens to be the same as someone he mentioned once in a fleeting conversation TEN YEARS AGO about a crush he had presumably at least ten years prior to that??? Feel free to re-read this to yourself until you realise the nuttiness 😂
P.S. what's the name?

I know someone with an Emma and Emily and always thought it was a bit unusual!

almondflake · 27/06/2024 18:39

@Poolstream hi. Emma was called that because when she was born Rachel and Ross couldn't decide on a name so Monica volunteered that she always wanted to call her daughter when she had one Emma , Rachel begged Monica for the name so she let her use it , thus Emma was named .

I have a theory that if you asked a man to name a baby girl 87% of them will pick the name of the prettiest girl in their class, the cool girl in their group of friends, the girl they fancied when they were 15 etc.

So you'll get suggestions of Chloe, Gemma, Jennifer etc. Names that are that bit out of date. It doesn't mean they still have feelings for them just that they associate those names with happy, popular girls and they have the same aspiration for their own daughter.
