Would you go on holiday if covid positive, trying to settle an argument!

SavetheNHS · 26/06/2024 17:42

I still test occasionally if ill, so I can protect my family if I get COVID. It makes sense.

If you are well enough, have travel insurance that will cover any hospital treatment if needed and you are able to wear a good quality mask around others then I would consider going.
I would take a few spare masks to offer any passengers sitting near me too.

Like pp I too have long COVID and wouldn't wish it upon anyone.

paasll · 26/06/2024 17:44

Most people would, which is why my extremely vulnerable mother doesn’t go out. Unless it’s to the hospital.

Janehasamane · 26/06/2024 17:45

CoastalCalm · 26/06/2024 17:40

Well as a vulnerable person I would be able to claim on insurance as since 2020 have always ensured I have Covid cover included and the requirement for antivirals would be a medical reason for me to cancel

Well thats a drip feed.

brentwoods · 26/06/2024 17:46

FrenchandSaunders · 26/06/2024 16:13

Yes. If I felt well enough. But then I wouldn’t have tested.

Yes, THIS.

Covid or not -- if you're too sick to go, stay home. Doesn't matter if it's Covid, a cold, the flu, D&V . . . there's nothing special about knowing it's Covid vs something else.

AmelieTaylor · 26/06/2024 17:48

Beginningless · 26/06/2024 16:14

Yes of course. It’s not 2020.

Oh so it's no longer deadly to the vulnerably an often utterly fucking awful for many, plus life changing if it turns into long covid.

so many selfish cunts around.

greenpolarbear · 26/06/2024 17:48

Of course not.

lemontova · 26/06/2024 17:50

No. I have covid at the minute. It's shit. I'm working from home whilst feeling dreadful. Husband is keeping distance to stay healthy. If you get on a plane with covid, everyone will be infected by the time you land. Everyone's holiday ruined. I'd reschedule it, or join later when no longer infectious.

Tangled123 · 26/06/2024 17:52

I missed my SILs hen party abroad in 2021 due to catching Covid leading up to it. I was testing all week after I got symptoms, but only tested positive on the day I felt better, which was the day before we flew out 😭.

I think I have Covid again now. Based on how I felt yesterday, I probably won’t go, but I would today as I feel a lot better.

Janehasamane · 26/06/2024 17:57

But this makes no sense, over a third of people have no symptoms at all, and something like another 40 percent have very mild symptoms, so wouldn’t know they had it. There is also no testing program, and people are not covered by their insurance if they cancel

sure call people selfish cunts if they won’t give up thousands of pounds worth of holiday, dont test, but you’d need to petition all thr world governments to change that,

or vulnerable people could understand that rhe world did stop to protect them.and now it’s restarted so they do need to protect themselves

Ginnnny · 26/06/2024 17:59

I had covid last week and went on a family holiday. Everyone knew I was positive and was comfortable with it so as long as anyone you're going with knows and you dont feel too shit it's fine

Whyhaveibeencutoutofmamsnot · 26/06/2024 18:05

Are you testing for flu or latent TB both of which could put vulnerable people at risk. Do you drive as every time you go out there is the risk of harming someone?
There could be others on the plane with asymptomatic COVID who are a risk to others who have not tested.

NYE2023 · 26/06/2024 18:06

@TipsyKoala you are quite wrong on that point . Some people do. When I ordered some more tests on Amazon not so long ago they indicated that it was popular item and 20k just had recently been sold. seasonal flu season is now over - if you feel very rubbish there is a good chance that it could be Covid right now - Covid isn’t seasonal .

I know quite a few who have had it in the past few weeks including someone who inadvertently infected a large chunk of those on a sales dept away day. It had a real impact on their business because so many people felt like shit and needed to take a few days off work .

if you know you have Covid, sitting on a plane unmasked next to someone else can have far reaching consequences like long Covid ( it is a thing and sets it apart from a cold ) for them or they could pass it onto a vulnerable relative. This is part of the reason travelling has become so stressful for those who are vulnerable .

it must be hard for our most vulnerable knowing there are the tools out there but no one is prepared to use them . I do have some vulnerable relatives and I always test before seeing them .

interestingly I was at a major European Airport not so long ago and there was. a lady looked really unwell - and they refused to let her board . I’m flying tomorrow - I hope @Galwaygirl Covid positive person isnt sitting next to me without a decent mask on especially since many have unpleasant gastro issues with current Covid and that would be extremely unpleasant for fellow users of aircraft loos .

SallyWD · 26/06/2024 18:08

No. I wouldn't. I've seen too many young healthy people suffering devssting effects of Long Covid. I also saw my mum hospitalised and delerious with Covid.

DinnaeFashYersel · 26/06/2024 18:11

Yes if I felt well enough to.

DinnaeFashYersel · 26/06/2024 18:12

Although I would know as haven't tested for a few years now.

Jeezitneverends · 26/06/2024 18:12

FrenchandSaunders · 26/06/2024 16:13

Yes. If I felt well enough. But then I wouldn’t have tested.

Same.

I was on a holiday a while ago and felt absolutely rank. I’m pretty sure I’d have got a positive test but didn’t test.

So what do you suggest? Should we go back to people with covid not going to work, regardless of the impact on the economy? How would we get asymptomatic people to stay home? Do you want us to return to forcing children to shove these tests up their nose every time they have a cough? Staying off school because other kids may have vulenerable family members?

Flinging insults isn’t really helpful - please give us the actual practical solutions to this problem.

Jeezitneverends · 26/06/2024 18:14

Wendysfriend · 26/06/2024 16:38

As we have 2 very vulnerable people in our family and still test I would appreciate if someone didn't get on a plane with COVID, but people are basically for themselves now, they don't really care if my dd or DH become seriously ill, once they feel fine then it's my problem to deal with anything DD and DH pick up.

Do they wear a mask for travel/in crowded places? There’s a huge element of personal responsibility in life

Nearly Covid Bingo!

As so many are symptom less, I assume you’re testing before boarding?

Tel12 · 26/06/2024 18:23

No definitely not

ApolloandDaphne · 26/06/2024 18:24

I have got Covid right now and was supposed to be going away with friends at the weekend. I have cancelled as i feel crap AND one of my friends is CEV. I have also cancelled all plans until well into next week. I don't want to inflict this on any one if i don't need to. DH has it too so we are hunkering down at home until we are both clear of it. I know we don't have to but it feels like the right thing to do.

Nutella22 · 26/06/2024 18:27

No, I assume that if I know I’m Covid-positive I have symptoms and would not be feeling well enough to travel. Covid is unpredictable so even if I felt ok I’d worry about taking a turn for the worse away from home. Plus it’s important to rest as much as possible during an acute Covid infection to reduce the chances of Long Covid. I would never knowingly spread Covid around either as contrary to most people I haven’t bought into the ‘Covid is now mild’ narrative.

I travel a few times a year and since Covid started I always book fully refundable hotels up to the day before so if I have to cancel I just lose my flight cost. Appreciate not everyone can do this.

RobinsonsOrange · 26/06/2024 18:33

Good job all the medical professionals / school staff aren't following the quite honestly laughable guidance that is still on the .GOV uk website linked to above, or schools would be temporarily closing all the time and the NHS would completely fall over.
As with most other people on this thread, my job tells me that if I'm feeling rubbish then to stay off, if I'm feeling ok then to work (ie exactly the same as if I had flu or tonsillitis).

Galwaygirl · 26/06/2024 18:48

Sorry for late reply.

She is a nurse who had no symptoms but tested regularly as she was dealing with vulnerable patients. She feels fine, she is travelling by ferry, day 4 of isolation and then going to self catering for a week, it's a hard kne as I know so many not testing at all.
