AIBU to pick the early flight?

I’m lying awake flip-flopping over this so I’m going to hand it over to the mumsnet AIBU jury.

Summer holiday with DC 8 and 10, not naturally early risers. 2.5 hour flight to a nice beach resort where we are staying 2 nights before moving on. Easyjet from Luton airport.

I have choice of 2 flights: 6:30am or 1:30pm. No difference in price.

6:30am cons:
-extra £150 for airport hotel.
-early start, esp for DC who are difficult to rouse early and unlikely to sleep

6:30am pros
-No stress about travel to airport as will be in walking distance
-flight less likely to be delayed
-arrive at lunchtime so get whole afternoon and evening to enjoy pool etc and relax

1:30pm cons
-risk of train issues etc = stress on the day
-will only arrive mid evening
-delays more likely and would cut into very limited evening time in resort

1:30pm pros
-can leave home after breakfast about 9am
-full night sleep for everyone
-if flight is on time and picking up bags, hire car etc is smooth we should get a bit of time to use pool etc before bed.

I think I am erring towards the early flight but I can’t believe I would choose a flight that involves being up about 3:30am when there’s an option to fly at a civilised time.

YANBU - take the early flight!
YABU - lunchtime flight!

You could stay in the hotel and take the 1.30 flight. That's what I'd do. I hate both early flights and rushing to the airport.

We are flying out on Monday and it's an early flight. Mine are 2, 6 and 8 and have done an early flight before and coped well. Otherwise we'd be a day down. First day for us is about getting our bearings, spending time at the pool and beach but largely led by the kids.

I'd go for the earlier flight and unless they have sen I'd expect them to cope. They can always gave a rest wheh you get there or an earlier night.
