Every night night door but one has a game...until at least 9pm...of throwing plastic dishes into a metal thing..tbh looks like a large bbq from window but hitting the chains it's really noisy..dd sleeps right by that side..it honestly is vvvv noisy...they nice people but young but no children...it's before the 10pm you expect for quiet and they great normally but just when dd goes to sleep...I know I'm.being unreasonable to ask as it's not late..it be ok if they started playing at 9pm...once she asleep she asleep but starting right at bedtime is awful timing...help...what do I say

You just go and knock and say that's a really loud game what is it? Can you make it any quieter? I have young children who go to bed at 8am and you're keeping them awake. Can we find a compromise? Just have a normal chat about it.

How long has this being going on for?

Days? Weeks? Months?

Is it definitely a ‘game’? As it sounds really strange.

viques · 25/06/2024 21:06

Well first of all you put a smile on your face, because you catch more flies with honey. Go round, knock on the door and explain the situation. Then depending on their reasonableness and response they either say sorry, they didn’t realise how noisy it was and stop, or they don’t stop and you escalate to your local council, after keeping a noise diary for a couple of weeks so you have some evidence to show them.

A lot of people are thoughtless, but most are reasonable, let’s hope yours turn out to be this.

As others have suggested you go round and nicely explain and ask if they can play something a little less noisy.

Willmafrockfit · 25/06/2024 21:10

just ask politely, with a smile

Londonrach1 · 25/06/2024 21:20

8-9pm isn’t that late, it’s their garden but if it’s that big a deal just go and speak to them.

Mandoidi · 25/06/2024 22:36

I totally understand OP, i know that sound and I can totally accept that it could be disruptive/annoying 🙉

I'm quite wary of the noise ours makes, I prefer for us not to use it for too long at a time and at a more acceptable hour, but still I worry how it sounds to our neighbours. I keep meaning to but a silencer, and your post has reminded me to do that.

(I'm noting your username and making an assumption about your location) if you are in the croydon area theres a cracking disc golf course in Lloyd Park

Hope your chat goes well!

KoiKoiKoi · 25/06/2024 22:39

Yes speak to them. As long as you're prepared to never allow your child in the garden at silly o'clock in the morning, or scream in the garden all evening or have a squeaky trampoline or play anything so noisy it inconveniences any of your neighbours op.
