To report to the police

So this is the situation;

  • My DD is in year 1 at a small school. We live in an apartment block about 50 meters from the school. There is a boy in her class, we will call Joe. He and his family live an a neighbouring apartment block.
  • Joe's dad is doing many very poorly hidden drug deals on the road our blocks are on. There is no doubt he is a drug dealer, I have watched about 5 this week alone. He also smokes weed in the car park which bugs me, but the drug dealing is the main issue from my POV.
  • We're unhappy because we don't want drug deals constantly being done outside our window. I'm also concerned that Joe's dad clearly has a stash of drugs stored somewhere in his flat that Joe or his two younger siblings could potentially come to harm with.

So.

Aibu to report to the police? Will they do anything?

I would only do this anonymously. And whilst I could easily get video evidence, I'm not prepared to as it would be easy to see where the video had been taken from.

Thanks

You could report anonymously via Crimestoppers. They transfer info to the police. It could be the police already have some intelligence and are trying to build a bigger picture. Drug dealers are the pits

Pterodacty1 · 25/06/2024 20:47

Report anonymously via crime stoppers.

xyz111 · 25/06/2024 20:48

Agree, report it via crimestoppers.

DinnaeFashYersel · 25/06/2024 20:49

Report via crime stoppers

Starshine08 · 25/06/2024 21:09

Sorry to hijack, but you can do this? About drug dealing, and do it anon via crime stoppers, would your number not come up, as I know it does with the police even when you withhold it?

beckybarefoot · 25/06/2024 21:13

what a faff with crimestoppers... just ring your local police.. ring on 101 you can ask for your information to be kept anon.. and that way you will speak to a local person, who will ask lots of questions and pass the info on to the right person.

alternatively you can now go online, for your local police force, and submit your information via their online reporting forms, and again it can all be done very discretely.

Pterodacty1 · 25/06/2024 21:14

You can report online if you prefer not to call. Either way, your computer IP and mobile phone won't be tracked or saved. It's completely anonymous

to be fair with big brother and all that... nothing is totally anon now... unless you write it on a piece of paper and mail it

Kangarude · 25/06/2024 21:18

Crimestoppers is completely anonymous

My husband reported similar behaviour next door to a property he rents out. Tenants were complaining of smell and ASB. Police raided it a few days later. Found a massive grow in the attic, arrested a couple of males, found a female (and later on, her friend) who had been trafficked and was being treated as a slave to the men looking after the grow and working a job that required her to be picked up at 3am by some shady blokes. The woman had a toddler daughter. I dread to think what her life was like in that house. The men also blew our guttering up with fireworks. They made the whole road miserable. Definitely report it!

You can also contact the nspcc if you want to report concerns about the children anonymously.

BobbyBiscuits · 25/06/2024 21:32

Crime stoppers. Totally anonymous. You can report to the council as ASB but not sure how anonymously.

drugdealdiva · 26/06/2024 07:53

I've reported on crime stoppers. Thanks.

DH has gone mental saying it will be totally obvious that it's us based on the info that I've given, and it's going to end up affecting DD at school. I disagree, there are about 50 properties that have sight of the activities, but now doubting myself!

Sigh, can't do right for doing wrong.

I think you're right for doing it and right for doing it via Crimestoppers. Drug dealing can escalate into knife crime and worse.

maw1681 · 26/06/2024 09:18

I think you've done the right thing, if you both live in apartment blocks there's loads of people who could have seen and reported it, he won't know for definite it's you

Kangarude · 26/06/2024 16:50

Well done OP. If it’s blocks of flats, it could have been anyone who reported. Don’t worry about it.
