Stop kids staying in a house where there's weed being smoked?

My ex is living with his mum and he has mentioned the children coming to stay the night soon... his mum used to smoke weed and after a recent upset she's started again. I've been in the house recently and can smell it. I don't want my children going there or staying the night if she's smoking... do I have any rights to this? What is solution, to have my ex in my house for his time with them?

In what way is cannabis more harmful than alcohol? Or is it just the fact that you don't call alcohol a drug?

I don't smoke (or otherwise consume) cannabis, and I'm not teetotal, but if alcohol is OK, so is cannabis.

Alcohol is only damaging in significant amounts.
Drugs are damaging full stop.

Weed is less harmful than alcohol, so if anyone ever drinks alcohol in your house when the children are there, it's hypocritical to say there's a problem with them being in a house where cannabis may be consumed.

However, you'll notice I said "consumed", rather than "smoked". Smoking anything is bad not only for the smoker, but those around them - say to him you expect the mother to either consume her cannabis another way or smoke in the garden.

Daft comparison. You can’t get drunk by being around someone who is drinking. You CAN get stoned inhaling secondhand smoke. No way would I allow my kids around weed smoke.

As a side note it really annoys me when people say that weed is ‘less harmful’ than alcohol. In the poor community I grew up in, the mental hospitals are filled with people who have gone nuts from smoking skunk. Loads of suicides of people who have gone crazy off it. And weirdly no one who has had liver disease from drinking.

"Weed is less harmful than alcohol" - false. In some people, weed can cause psychotic episodes. In young people it changes the structure of the brain and in all people it affects dopamine production. I've also witnessed violent behaviour from addicts who become verbally aggressive and abusive when they can't get hold of it (source - father was a weed addict).

Weed is written off as harmless but I think it is at least as dangerous if not more dangerous than alcohol, for a lot of people. And for the rest I still think it's dangerous. When I consider all of my friends who are regular users their lives are all messed up - unsociable, unhappy, unmotivated and their lives revolve around getting their next joint.

People need to stop being so blase about the dangers of weed. I say this as an ex user.

I imagine the stark difference between alcohol and drugs/weed is:

Alcohol is legal and isn't cut with other unknown substances.

Neither is alcohol, to my knowledge, sold to uphold prostitution, trafficking, child trafficking etc.

Yes this is my thinking too.

Yes we all know alcohol consumed to excess causes major problems, both personally and socially but it's not supporting the vile drugs trade.
