Really needing some advice here because I just have a really rotten feeling that I’ve done something to offend a friend.

basically I had a baby earlier this year. I’m in a friendship group with me and 2 others, one friend checks in regularly and has visited a couple of times and keeps up with me on socials. The other friend has visited once, rarely checks in (she’s a mother so knows how rough the first few months are) and I’ve just sat and looked at my social posts of photos of my baby and she hadn’t liked a single photo nor left a comment. I feel it’s petty perhaps on my side but also quite b!itchy from her at the same time.

she has recently had a baby and is being fussed over of course. But I just feel really close to messaging her asking why she doesn’t show any love or attention towards me and my child?

thoughts? X

The answer is really simple - leave the group, don't go on any social networks, and just enjoy your baby

DaughterNo2 · 24/06/2024 17:19

Do you keep in touch via anything that isn’t SM?

Isittimeformynapyet · 24/06/2024 17:21

Has she given up social media to live in the real world?

MonsteraMama · 24/06/2024 17:21

Er, as you say, she's recently had a baby and the first months are rough. She's probably busy and preoccupied.

You’re genuinely upset because she didn’t put a thumbs up on your baby’s photo on social media?! Really?

Yes really. That’s why I want to ask if I’m being unreasonable because I can see she is fussing over everyone else and I feel left out! That along with no checking in messages etc.

Have you checked on her? Texted to take the babies out for a walk or the park together.
Did you liked her children pics in SM?
You say she has visited once and checks in occassionally, so I would not be offended at all.
But if you do want a closer relationship with her, I think you need to take the lead.

Sirzy · 24/06/2024 17:31

I do find that this happens a lot, by not engaging on posts on social media it can be a sly way of being bitchy. But if you call someone out on it by enquiring why they don't engage you're then seen as the one with the problem and made out to look nuts. It's definitely a thing! Basically being bitchy and getting away with it. It's also generally women that do this in my experience.

Seconded.

You say she's recently had a baby, have you 'shown any love or attention towards her and her child'?

Funkyfizz · 24/06/2024 17:38

Why have you called a PP grandma?

keylimedog · 24/06/2024 17:39

I think it's totally unreasonable to put any store on whether or not things have been liked on social media - it's not real life.

Have you checked in with her? Have your messages / comments gone ignored? Are you showing "love and affection" to her via social media?

I'd be hurt if someone was ignoring my texts / messages reaching out to them, but also I'd be aware enough especially if they've just had a baby that life can be tough! If you're good enough friends then that sort of thing doesn't really matter in my opinion, you just catch up when you catch up and both can put some time in.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 24/06/2024 17:43

Honestly, that “grandma” comment from you marks you out as the sort of person who is likely to have caused offence. So in answer to your question. Yes. You probably have offended her at some point and the lack of likes on your photos is deliberate on her part.

Yup

ellyoctober · 24/06/2024 17:49

Gosh that flipping "Grandma" comment was a smidge unnecessary wasn't it?

🙄

ellyoctober · 24/06/2024 17:50

And we can fucking swear on here, no need for twee exclamation marks to soften the words.

Nobbynolox · 24/06/2024 17:53

Could the grandma comment have been an accident. It does not make sense. Since op does not know anyone's age .

Well I think we can all work out why she's binned you off.

armyofants · 24/06/2024 17:57

You shouldn’t post photos of your child on social media anyway. Most of us are way past this with what we know now.

Sunflower8710 · 24/06/2024 18:03

armyofants · 24/06/2024 18:00

All parents should be made to watch this.

I think it says more about people who willingly share photos of their children on SM to an audience of strangers. My accounts are private and everyone who is on my SM is a friend or family member.

The twee swearing on here just lately drives me up the fucking wall.
