Work panic? Have I done the right thing?

Am I over thinking massively?

dc2 sent home from nursery (totally bogus reason currently waiting to gp call back)

called manager, no answer. Sent instant message, seen but no reply. Sent a follow up, seen but no reply. I’ve had to get dc. Tried to join a work call and then get 111 call back and had to leave call. Sent message saying will put as emergency leave and make up work this evening , no reply. I can’t really work with dc2 around. It’s too difficult. But I had to collect them.

am I going to get in trouble?

It sounds like you have done all you can. Please try not to get worried. An unwell child comes before work and no employer should think otherwise

Seems completely reasonable to me.
I always told my team that if necessary they just go,.they don't have to wait for my permission.

Any decent manager should understand

You've made several attempts to let your manager know. (No reasonable) employer is going to expect you to wait for permission to collect your ill child!

Also, assuming this would come under Emergency Parental Leave, the government website says this:

"Tell your employer as soon as possible if you need time off. If it’s an emergency, you may not be able to do this before you leave work but you should let your employer know as soon as possible.

You do not have to do this in writing or give written proof."

I’d just taken some time off as AL due to personal circumstance (5 days) so I’d got a bit worried it would look like I’m shit
