Are we meant to be getting COVID booster jabs?

Posting here for traffic. Have googled, but it's unclear.

Me & DH both have covid right now. I feel okayish, but DH feels awful. Are we meant to be getting booster jabs? I'm sure it's been over a year since we had one, but the NHS App doesn't work any more, so I can't check.

We are 54 & 51, with no health conditions.

Thanks

Has your Google stopped working too?

Who is eligible for a spring COVID-19 vaccine
You or your child may be offered a spring COVID-19 vaccine if you:

  1. are 75 years or over (you need to be 75 years old by 30 June 2024)
  2. are 6 months to 74 years old and have a weakened immune system
  3. live in a care home for older adults
OhHelloMiss · 24/06/2024 13:38

I thought covid jabs were a thing of the past now tbh!

WappityWabbit · 24/06/2024 13:39

If you're in Ireland, you can probably get one. My DH (71) got one at the end of May.

WappityWabbit · 24/06/2024 13:41

You don't normally get offered one if you're within 6 months of catching Covid.
Our local pharmacy was doing them until recently.

Jennalong · 24/06/2024 13:42

I currently know quite a few people with covid currently , and they are not known to each other so there must be quite a spike of people with it .
Unfortunately I have been in close contact with one of them so it's a waiting game for me.

Citrusandginger · 24/06/2024 13:43

They will be available privately again in the Autumn for adults not covered by the NHS.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 24/06/2024 13:43

I think it’s only if you’re vulnerable.

Upinthenightagain · 24/06/2024 13:44

I have it at the moment and it’s bloody awful. Only had a mild case of it once before in 2020. I’m thinking about getting jabbed going forward.

CheshireCat1 · 24/06/2024 13:44

I’ve just had mine. I got an email and also an invite on the NHS app. I’m immunosuppressed. They’re only doing them until the end of June this time.

IAmAnAdultHumanFemale · 24/06/2024 13:45

Boots do them privately for £100 a pop

BibbleandSqwauk · 24/06/2024 13:46

What's the situation for children who were too young when we all got them but are 12+ now? I can't get a straight answer from GP reception.

Mercurial123 · 24/06/2024 13:46

The NHS are pretty clear

Are we meant to be getting COVID booster jabs?
longapple · 24/06/2024 13:47

some local pharmacies offer them privately too through pharmadoctor
pharmadoctor.co.uk/patient/service/covid-vaccination

IAmAnAdultHumanFemale · 24/06/2024 13:47

Oh idk why my link didn't woek
sorry

BibbleandSqwauk · 24/06/2024 13:49

@Mercurial123 yes I can see that, but I'm asking why, if the idea that all of us who have had jabs are now at least somewhat protected from the worst of the infection, is it not available to teens who were under 12 in 2021.

PinkTonic · 24/06/2024 13:52

I’ve got it at the moment and due to being immune suppressed I had a booster in May. Currently don’t feel as though it helped much, I feel dreadful and much worse than when I had it before. I’m waiting for a call about antivirals.

Does anyone else who has it now have really severe nausea?

Blondiebeachbabe · 24/06/2024 13:53

According to Google the vaccine only lasts for about 6 months, so why have they stopped giving boosters? Won't it start killing people again?

Blondiebeachbabe · 24/06/2024 13:55

I don't feel sick, no. For me, it's like a mild cold. But DH is suffering with flu like symptoms : hot & cold, achy etc.

How do you know so many people with Covid - why are they still testing? - Not a sarcastic question, I'm genuinely wondering which types of people are still regularly doing Covid tests.

I don't know anyone who still does Covid tests and without researching how I don't think I could even find a Covid test. They're not even free anymore are they?

Sparkletastic · 24/06/2024 14:00

No it won't start killing (most) people again as the strain currently circulating is far milder.

ChocoChocoLatte · 24/06/2024 14:01

I just had mine but I'm 48 with stage 4 cancer.....

I don't test, but it was a dead giveaway when my sense of taste and smell disappeared completely.

My local supermarket sells them still, so I'm pretty sure you could find one if you wanted to.

Tests are readily available in Boots and local pharmacies. No they aren’t free. Some people test because they are still at high risk of serious illness from Covid and maybe others would still consider testing so they don’t spread it around unnecessarily.
