To call in sick

I’ve been back at work for a month from maternity leave and have been unwell since going back. I feel like my immune system has just said NO can’t do this. DD not unwell, but maybe I’m getting germs from her from nursery.

In the last three weeks I’ve had a throat infection, an eye infection, and I’m currently struggling to eat or speak with a tongue absolutely covered in swollen ulcers. My throat is still sore and my eye is swollen again too, looks like a stye this time. I feel shit.

I'm a teacher, and I know that calling in sick would affect the department and make the day difficult for them. Also setting cover is not ideal.

I saw the doctor on Friday (I know, a miracle!) and she said give it three weeks and they’ll do blood tests.

Chances are I’ll feel a bit better in the morning as it tends to be worse at night, but I feel like I need to properly rest to kick this.

AIBU to call in sick? For essentially a swollen eye and ulcers?!

Yanbu. You're ill, rest and get better. Listen to your body

Kitkat1523 · 23/06/2024 20:41

Yep ring in sick

greengreyblue · 23/06/2024 20:43

If you’re not well enough to work, call in sick. If you can manage with some paracetamol and you’re not contagious, go in. They may well send you home anyway.

Only you know how ill you are

Patty101 · 23/06/2024 20:46

Another vote for ring in sick. Just knowing you don't need to drag yourself into work tomorrow will probably give you a better night's sleep tonight too, which will do wonders for your immune system.

Hope you feel better soon.

Ring in sick. Not the end of the world

MigGirl · 23/06/2024 20:54

Write your cover now, send your email in now with your cover work so you can have a lie in and rest properly in the morning.

I have never worked in another job where you have to send in work when you are ill.

Call in sick. Going back to work and managing the nursery bugs is so grim at first, take care of yourself and feel better soon

Thank you for the replies 💓 I feel like I’ve been given permission now - stupid I know!

Defo call in sick! As a teacher, I bet they would never send you home , so definitely rest up from the offset at home! X

Would you expect a child to come in as sick as you are? No. So stay home.
