To work remotely from a campsite

dogoverman · 21/06/2024 14:22

Would it be unreasonable to take the dog camping and work remotely from a campsite with electric hook up

I have a little table and chair and could work quite well

Well it would be a definite no 😊

If it would be a no then why are you going? Why not just take annual leave. I wouldn’t want to deceive my boss, let alone run the risk of being found out.

NervousNelly84 · 21/06/2024 15:04

I couldn't. Our WFH policy states that if WFH must be from your home address, as held on record by the company. We are not allowed to work remotely from anywhere else (unless travelling for business obviously).

You need to ask your employer/check your company handbook/WFH policy. Not ask Mumsnet.

Then yes, YWBU.

pontipinemum · 21/06/2024 15:06

I WFH, my work wouldn't mind but they are very flexible. Is it specifically said anywhere in your contract you must be in your own home?

It sounds like you're staying in the country so that's not a tax issue.

Biggest thing would be the Wifi

maddiemookins16mum · 21/06/2024 15:10

Are you basically going on your holidays but not taking annual leave?

Ginnnny · 21/06/2024 15:12

Read the finer points in your contract or WFH policy. I’m some cases WFH means work remotely so technically you can work from anywhere as long as you can do the job for your set hours. I work in HR and we get a lot of people working while away from home. I myself did it when on a family holiday last year!

PeachHedgehog · 21/06/2024 15:12

Do not mention it at work at all.
I have camped where there is a more reliable signal than I get at home. Not all campsites are in the dark ages.
I could easily do this. I do not handle confidential information. Although I would probably find a quiet pub if there was a planned zoom meeting.

PeachHedgehog · 21/06/2024 15:13

@maddiemookins16mum The OP is not. A holiday means not working.

Churchview · 21/06/2024 15:14

My friend has done this for the last two summers. She lives in a beauty spot and let her house out on air bnb whilst she lived in a campsite and worked remotely. Popped home on Saturdays to do the air bnb clean/changeover.

Had a blast and made a fair profit in the bargain.

No I would be working, just during the break I could swim in the lake and when I finish I am on holiday

Changing the subject @dogoverman how do you keep your pup inside the tent at night? mine is a confirmed squirrel (and anything else) chaser. I would be frightened to take him anywhere camping, he might go off during the night! a friend with similar dog slept with the leash around her stomach but really don't want to do that!!

LlynTegid · 21/06/2024 15:23

You have decided no I see, but no harm asking and I can see why you considered it.

Your friend is a genius!

Why not just go away for the weekend and whilst you’re there you could see how easy it would be to work remotely.

I would absolutely hate having to work whilst on my holiday, as surely that defeats the point of a holiday.

You’d be paying to have your head staring at a screen for the best part of the day and only actually enjoying the holiday for a few hours.

She is exhausted by the evening and desperate for bed but if she wasn't I would just put her on a lead and stake outside and thread the lead through the tent if that makes sense, you can get a longer Lead line for this 😊

That's a good point to check the wifi at the camp

Thanks 😊 so she can go outside if she wants? hmm don't think that would work for my one..

dogoverman · 21/06/2024 15:51

@wavingfuriously you could put her on a short lead so that if she escapes she won't go far ,

Or Crate her ? They don't take up much room in the tent

Or zip her in

Or all of the messages lol

...thank you👍 zip her in...he's a b*y digger! would wake up to a dug out hole🤣

maw1681 · 21/06/2024 16:05

I don't think my work would mind as long as I got my work done. Tents get hot and stuffy during the day though and you won't get great lighting or wifi, plus you'll be uncomfortable working in a camping chair all day. I wouldn't like to work in a tent tbh.

Can't you book a cheap air b&b or caravan with wifi? Should be reasonably quiet now before school holidays start

dogoverman · 21/06/2024 16:12

@wavingfuriously we used to have one of those but they also used to put themselves to bed around 8 as they were knackered

She can be a little bit woofy at all the sounds but settles down well
