Caught Cleaner clipping her Nails in our Bathroom..

…with my nail clipper.

AIBU to fire her over this?

(Also - have never done an AIBU before and can’t figure out how to do the poll).

OP posts:

Seems a bit odd to clip all your nails at work; understandable if one nail chipped and needed to be sorted. Hope they weren’t all over the bathroom floor…
I’d clean the clippers and not say anything to her if you value her.

graceinspace999 · 25/06/2024 10:48

I’d just tell her how I don’t like other people using my stuff and not to do it again.

I’d keep an eye in her but no way would I sack someone over this. If she did it again it’d be bye bye.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/06/2024 11:25

@ButterCrackers - you said to @Grammarnut "I worked to support myself through university as I didn’t have a parent out cleaning toilets for my financial benefit." That was a thoroughly unpleasant thing to say, and I do think you owe @Grammarnut an apology for such a nasty comment.

Tandora · 25/06/2024 11:28

What?? What new mumsnet batshittery is this? Fire her for clipping her nails? Despite her being a really lovely woman who babysits and cleans for you?
Sometimes I feel like an alien. I do not understand the things that people have the time to get wound up about.

Check what she wrote to me before complaining about my reply which was based on the words written which are pure nastiness. Her comments were not related to the OP post and out to get me. I didn’t ask for an apology and I’m not giving her one. Time for you to move along.

I can't believe you're serious.
Would you fire her for blowing her nose with one of your tissues or having a drink of water using one of your glasses.
Man, people are horrible.

This seems a bit virtue signally - anyone who's had toenail fungus would understand why there was an issue with this. It's like using someone's toothbrush. Not to mention it's just not cool that she's doing this on the clock - the whole thing is unboundaried and disrespectful. If you want to employ unhygienic layabouts for virtue credentials, then go for it, but business is business and I would never expect someone to put up with lack of professionalism from me. I do a lot of this type of work and I would maybe use the loo/tissue for blowing my nose, but I'd bring my own water bottle. My partner is a construction worker and he's the same. If a client brings you a tea, that's a lovely gesture, but it should be appreciated, not expected. Using their home like it's your own is unprofessional.

Listen to you talking about jumping to conclusions - look at what you tried to pin on me. No apology on my part is required.

What did I pin on you? That you pointed out that you worked your way through uni rather than have your DM clean loos? You said that. It was incorrect in respect of me and I said so. Sorry I did not put my DoB on the post.

Grammarnut · 25/06/2024 13:25

Just to clarify: I said I was glad my DM did not work for ButterCrackers. I probably fronted it with something like 'charming' as she came over as if the 'help' were an inferior sort of being - who got respect and pay because she did her job properly, but not otherwise. Did not mean to be esp. nasty but ButterCracker's comment back was insulting and accused me of leaching off my DM.

It was in response to the nasty comments you wrote. The difference being that I replied to your words. You introduced a level of mean that didn’t exist in the post and was unrelated to the OP’s situation. It was an odd attack. I’m not sure what you thought to gain. The more I think on it the stranger it seems. I’d say to just step back now.

I meant to explain my position and why I thought as I did. You then said I had let my DM clean toilets so I could go to uni. That's way beyond anything I said. What do you not understand about implying I let my DM clean someone else's loos so I did not have to pay for my university place being beyond the Pale?

Dontbeabitterlemon · 25/06/2024 17:36

Such a strange thing to do in someone else's home

jools7 · 07/07/2024 13:09

I cleaned for a gentleman for 20yrs and I would have asked him if I could use his nail clippers. If you're not happy with her work though then try and find yourself someone else.xx

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 14/09/2024 16:34

No need to fire this woman unless something else has gone wrong. You could tell her you think it's unhygienic to share things like this and ask her not to do it again.

Chelsea74 · 16/09/2024 06:27

I caught my cleaner in a compromising position in my bedroom!

Amazed this discussion still goes on. She clipped her nails. So what?

I caught my cleaner in a compromising position in my bedroom!

Do tell!

Mummymoo03 · 23/09/2024 15:18

This isn't about whether sharing nail clippers is an issue? Surely it's about she was grooming herself while she was being paid to clean for you. Her looking sheepish tells you she knows she was wrong. If her cleaning skills aren't great either I would fire her. Letting a cleaner into your home is about trusting them to respect you and respecting them enough not to leave anything too gross to clean up- it's a balance.

Do tell!

She was playing with one of my toys

Chelsea74 · 24/09/2024 11:34

she was being very naughty!
