Hi everyone, just wanted a bit of advise or clarity regarding my situation. I was on maternity leave from September 27, 2022 to September 23, 2023. I filed for 8 weeks additional annual leave post maternity but my manager at that time said he can only give me 4 weeks as I was needed back. So, I asked him if I needed to spread out all my remaining leaves up until March 2024 before the new financial year started in April because I was due to return on mid October 2023 and may not be able to use all of it in time. He said that any unused leaves can be carried over but should be used up for tax year 2024-2025.
So when I came back on October 2023, I came back on part time hours. New matron started Feb 2024 and updated my entitlement, which was fairly computed considering when my part time hours started. However, when I asked about the remaining leaves to be carried over for taxyear 2024-2025, she said that she can only carry over 37.5 hours on top of my current entitlement based from our trust policy. And that I should have used all accrued leaves in that 6 months from when I returned. I still had 4.9 weeks of leaves unused, which I thought would be carried over as agreed with by my previous manager. From my standing, I came back October which was already 7 months down from the start of the tax year 2023-2024, and to use all of the leaves immediately after would not have been reasonable considering that it was a busy period, and staffing was short. I am quite at a loss if I have to fight and negotiate for my leaves to be carried over or just lose it.
