I can't deal with a pessary (yes, I've gave birth!)

I've been prescribed 3 pessaries for thrush and this has me in tears and nearly throwing up.
Yes, I know it's ridiculous, and having to have a pessary in to be induced was the same panic reaction for me. (And yes, I'm seeking therapy)

I get recurring thrush. When I have a dose of flucanazole, it doesn't seem to touch the sides anymore. A swab has shown I have a heavy growth of candida.

Is there any way of sorting this without the use of these pessaries?

I'm so sorry I didn't want to read and run.
But pessaries and the tablet for me are the only thing that ever stopped it when it got bad.
I promise it'll be worth it.
You must be so uncomfortable.

Merryoldgoat · 21/06/2024 10:20

What is it that makes you anxious?

greenys · 21/06/2024 10:23

@LilyJessie thank you.

@Merryoldgoat it's so stupid, but I'm genuinely just so squeamish about having it up there, just the thought makes me start panicking. I'm aware that it's absolutely ridiculous when you can have babies come out and penises go up, but there's something that just makes me freak out. I've never been able to use a tampon in my entire life for the same reason Blush

What about an internal vaginal cream? I’m assuming they usually come with some sort of tube applicator but then there wouldn’t be a pessary to insert or have to leave in. Would that work for you? This is a question for a pharmacist really OP. They’ll know all the options.

DogsOnTheDancefloor · 21/06/2024 10:25

Do you mean you have tried the tablet and it doesn’t work? Have you tried taking 3 doses with 72 hours between each dose? If not speak to your GP. Sometimes they give that as a loading dose and then prescribe s 6 month course to be taken weekly for stubborn cases.

greenys · 21/06/2024 10:26

@Demelzatheredhaired I didn't realise the pharmacist would be able to advise as it was prescribed by the GP and I didn't want to waste GP's time with irrational fears!

If you can’t even manage a tampon, I don’t think this will work for you. There must be an alternative.

MatildaTheCat · 21/06/2024 10:29

You do need the pessaries to clear it up. Candida has a nasty habit of lingering and flaring back up.

Have you tried lying on your back on the bed? Load the pessary onto the applicator and apply lots of the cream if you have it and then breathe deeply and think of the beauty of being comfortable again.

You can do this.

Demelzatheredhaired · 21/06/2024 10:30

You absolutely could have had that conversation with the GP, it wouldn’t be wasting their time at all. They want to prescribe you medicine you can actually take. A pharmacist might even be able to substitute the same medication in a cream rather than a pessary. Or they might be able to sell you a cream version over the counter. Don’t worry they won’t be shocked or make you feel embarrassed about it.

greenys · 21/06/2024 10:48

@Demelzatheredhaired I think I'll ring the GP, I just always think I'm being ridiculous considering they'll give people this stuff every day!
