My daughter has quite bad eczema around her lips and eyes, we have managed to get it under control but she has flare ups when she is in contact with some allergens that irritate it. We don’t know what these are so this can happen around twice a month. Her eczema will then flare up around her eyes and mouth. In February my daughter got this patch. The days prior all her lips were very dry and we were using her steroid cream around her lips to help. That got better but this patch didn’t. She was scratching around her lips and I remember her scratching this patch. She didn’t have any blisters or any weeping or anything like that. It went away for 2 weeks then it became sore again, was red and had a little cut. That healed quite quickly and she now still has this dry patch in the same spot. I can’t get it to go away as much as I moisturise it. I did send pictures to a gp before and I was told it doesn’t look like a cold sore, but what is your opinion on this? Could it be one or as there is still a dry patch there now, could it be eczema as there was no blister or effects that might occur with a first outbreak? I’ve uploaded pictures of it.

It might be worth requesting a dermatologist appointment/specialist appointment via your GP. I'm really battling with eczema at the moment, been to & fro the GP 3 times who each have diagnosed something different. The last GP admitted that these things tend to get written off as eczema & treated with generic eczema products but quite often are something else. I've had skin issues all my life & know how uncomfortable it can be. I'm using clean skin towels on my face so as not to further agitate with a used towel etc. sanex therapy shower gel. Antihistamine nightly & I wear cotton gloves in case I scratch in my sleep. I found the steroid cream didn't work too well, Dermol is really soothing but you have to apply a lot. I also cover any open sores so my clothes don't rub on them. Sorry I can't help with the diagnosis but thought the tips might help.

When my daughter had a bit like this fucidin cleared it (gp visit needed) - fucidin is 1 % hydrocortisone like normal excema steroid cream plus with an antibiotic in. Basically it was an infected patch hence the steroid alone wouldn’t shift it.

Roses Psoriasis starts with a herald patch. So it could be that.

Does it look like a cold sore? Considering it did not blister?

I suffer with cold sores and it does not look like a cold sore to me at all. Cold sores have a very definite type of pain with them as well, they don't itch they just hurt like hell.

I had Rosea Psoriasis a few years ago, it looked nothing at all like that.

Mine was totally flat, no blistering, not itchy. The herald patch was on my torso and the size of my hand!

That looks more like a cold sore to me
