Hi

Long story short.

I have just been informed my dental negligence claim will now be handled by a paralegal.
Was previously under a very experienced 12+ years solicitor as it was estimated to be complex a value between 25-40k.

Does anyone know why it may have been changed over? For more background all the medical records have been reviewed and the case has been accepted on the belief they can prove the negligence but I'm not sure why the case handled has now shifted.

I can't get through this afternoon but wanted to query.

Any advice is appreciated.

Likely capacity issues. At my firm, paralegals would often manage cases up to around £50k. They'd have a supervisor they'd discuss the case with regularly.

Sometimes paralegals are very experienced & just never did the qualification, so it might be ok. However, you can ask that it is allocated to another solicitor if you prefer.
If you're privately paying, then request a solicitor.

If you're under a no win, no fee, it's more difficult because the firm will be thinking about the costs they can recover from the other side. The other side won't pay for a very experienced person to do work that could've been done by a junior person, more cheaply. Therefore sometimes firms use different staff throughout the process.

Hope that makes sense. But ultimately, just guesses & you won't know why unless you ask x

Thank you so much
It's valued quite high which I wasn't actually expecting just want my money back for what I've had to pay privately. Fingers crossed! X

I understand.

I would call the firm & ask. It might be that if you're unhappy with it they can reallocate to a solicitor.
If you're paying privately, they might be thinking you'd prefer a cheaper member of staff!
