Help, I'm a picky clothes wearer...

Echoing the threads about picky eaters (NOT that I'm trying to detract from the seriousness of the problem that this can be, just painting the picture here), I think I'm a picky clothes wearer.

I mean, I do have a wardrobe with a host of outfits when I get a spurt of trying something new, but I seem to ALWAYS turn back to my trusted old steeds.

These seem to be a pair of dark jeans, a boden top that harks back to the times when their tops lasted decades, a floral skater dress with a cardigan and leggings, a pair of m&s black trousers for work with a silk top in summer and a jumper in winter and a curious top I got as an emergency buy in an indie type shop on a holiday in Cornwall after spilling ice cream all down my front - that thing goes from being dressed down for a festival to sprucing up for a fancy dinner. Also my uni hoodie and t-shirt occasionally still get a look in, although you won't get me to admit how old they are.

Anything else maybe gets a wear or two and then languishes in my wardrobe for the rest of time.

Having had a baby recently, I'm starting to pull myself together again and I need a shake-up. What are your go-to items that you keep wearing over and over again? I am perfectly willing to splash a bit if I'm sure it will rock up a decent mileage outside my wardrobe.

Honestly, I think that’s what most people do. I am huge capsule wardrobe advocate because I just hate unnecessary shite. So I have a couple of trousers for work and 5 identical tops in different colours. The rest of the time I live in athleisure, especially if it’s my gum day in the evening. For going out, I have 3-4 outfits and that’s me done. I have a box of vintage dresses which come out once every couple of years but I can’t face parting with them.
I’ve never really thought I needed more than this. As long as you are clean and out of your pjs and into something smart, you shouldn’t need hundreds of outfits to look well put together.

I totally hear you, but I guess the point of this post is to find a couple of new staples to expand my capsule a bit.

Bonus if it works with c-section shelf and a rather short neck.

I could have written this post and find it really hard to even buy new things

I am big fan of Uniqlo. Their blouses and polo necks are pretty flattering and not mumsy looking. They also last a good while. They have a good selection of age-appropriate trousers where my 40 y/o gob is not falling out but, again, they don’t look mumsy. I have two pairs of linen culottes from them which are perfect for summer coupled with a t-shirt.
Gap is also good for effortless style. I have an excellent pair of wide leg trousers from them and a couple of base tops.
Accessorise liberally and use a chunky cardigan and a nice pair of shoes.

The blouse type is tempting, but I'm yet to encounter one that doesn't gap in the boob section or doesn't look like a tent.

And don't get me started on the utter void of non-see through variety. I mean, I know bras have replaced tops in certain age categories, but I still refuse to walk around showing mine.

I am a booby size 8 and I have both XS and S. I slightly prefer S so, I am guessing between M and L, depending on how you like it to fit. They have a sizing chart on the website too.
The material is rayon so perfect for both summer and winter. The quality is really good. I bought my first one when I was in Japan in 2017 and it is still going strong.

They also make one where the buttons only come down to the chest level so might be worth keeping an eye out for that one if you want to avoid gapping. It’s part of their permanent collection but I don’t see it on the site currently.
The only slightly sheer one is the white one. I have one in rose colour and it is opaque. No issues with darker colours at all.
