How many days a week do you send your 3 year old to nursery if you're a SAHP?

I'm just curious really as currently I send my LO 3 days a week but he has additional needs and currently waiting for a EHCP but I don't know whether to bring it down to one day as he's not too keen on it so just wondering if other toddlers go less than him and are happy with that or whether to keep the three days.

Thank you

Mine all did 2 full days from age 2 , 1 day to get everything done and 1 day to chill

masomenos · 19/06/2024 17:18

Mine used to do three mornings a week.

SAHM here, we used our free x15 hours for my second, term time only (a half day and x2 full days 9-3). But a summer baby and had a fairly short amount of time at preschool in total. My eldest is a winter baby and had several terms longer at preschool so once they got to 4 we increased their hours as they were getting bored at home, so prob more like x4 days (9-3 ish term-time only).

(If you have a summer baby I think it’s worthwhile keeping a few days a week as they will only be at preschool a year before school. If you have a while to wait before they start school there’s no harm in reducing hours and then gradually increasing as and when they are ready.)

We started at one session then two at the middle of year one, increasing to 5 sessions gradually in year two (including a full day for the rising 4s).

DD1 went 3 days a week at age 3 (9am-4.30pm). DD2 is going to a different nursery and she will be doing 3 days (8.30-3.30) and 2 half days (8.30-12.30) at age 3.

BraMaHaLas · 19/06/2024 17:39

Both of mine did 3 days, 9-3

I was on mat leave with DC 2 when disabled child was 3. We did 15h with an ECHP spread over 5 days (i.e. 3h per day as that was the max DC could cope with).

Iloveeverycat · 19/06/2024 17:52

All 4 only went to a playschool term time mornings a year before starting school to get them ready. Wouldn't even think of sending to a nursery it not working. That's why I was a SAHM so I could be with them at home.

Shantotto · 19/06/2024 17:52

Mine didn’t go at 3 when I was a SAHM. She started the August after she turned 4 that May. She did school hours so 8.45ish to 3ish, with half day Friday. In Edinburgh so they only do half days on Fridays. But then she doesn’t seem to have any additional needs.

Keroppi · 19/06/2024 18:00

at my preschools they only let you do full days if you are working or studying. so mine always did mornings or afternoons 4 days a week. but used to take them out for fun trips, swimming lessons etc

Mumofoneandone · 19/06/2024 18:06

Eldest did 3 mornings a week, as that was the minimum allowed, at 3 years until starting school full time. Youngest did 2 mornings at 3.5years (earliest he could start) and went up to 3 mornings at 4 years. This was a nice balance for us all.
They were happy with this, but if they hadn't been we would have reconsidered.

Dramatic · 19/06/2024 18:11

Mine went to a school nursery class so did 3 hours a day, 5 days a week.

StopInhalingRevels · 19/06/2024 18:11

Mine did 3 days a week, 9 till 3. They are twins and would have driven me stir crazy (being born 5 weeks before lockdown and so being essentially trapped in the house from birth til just under 2) had I not put them in nursery when it became available.

They started aged 2. On their 3 days a week. Then at age 3 it was increased to 4 days. I started part time work when they were just under 4 and really wish I'd done this earlier. It wasn't being at home with the children that was killing me, it was being nothing other than "mum" and being so isolated due to lockdown that made it all so hard.

TaylorsVersion1 · 19/06/2024 20:12

Thank you all, I might look at sending him 2 days term time 9-4.30 which is the 15 hours and he also gets a solid chunk and we can still work on his EHCP but he can also spend the majority of the time at home.

Aged 2 - 5 mornings a week from 9am - 1pm

Tumbleweed101 · 19/06/2024 22:08

With my eldest two I did 3hrs every morning. I was working when my youngest two were nursery age so did their 15hrs as two 6hr days and one morning.

Growlybear83 · 19/06/2024 22:09

I didn't send my daughter to nursery until a term and a half before she started school, and then just for two afternoons a week to get her used to being away from me.

AnneLovesGilbert · 19/06/2024 22:11

DD did two mornings a week from 3.5 so the year before she started school.
