To think getting any help for my SEN child is nigh on impossible...

SEN - Dx ODD, adhd. 4 years behind academically - LA offer only mainstream. He's no clue what is going on. I feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall.

Fed up tbh and can't wait for the term to be over.

I genuinely don't know how so many people home educate SEN kids. Apart from them not listening to a word I say, there would be no way of financing our life. Literally couldn't eat and I know that universal credit doesn't pay you to educate, or cover mortgage. Yes ds2 has 60% attendance, no social interaction, needs a disability push chair and keeps leaping out to run off into traffic. The provision is appalling and not on anyone's agenda to fix after the gentleman election either.

My experience is you won't get special school without tribunal. The. When you battle for months and suffer serious stress and finally win it none will have space

BrumToTheRescue · 19/06/2024 18:13

If a Tribunal names a SS in an EHCP they must admit even if the school or LA claim they don’t have a space.

My Twin 2, aged 6, was diagnosed with ADHD and ODD this year. She's got an EHCP and she's still...floundering.
Everything that is place for her is because of my nigh on monomaniacal pursuit of support for her. The 'fight' nearly broke me mentally last year.
Now, it's 'game on' re: Twin 1. And, I'm tired of having to almost be an arsehole to get the support my daughters need (with no backing from family etc).
It's fucking relentless.

Dsis requested a re-assessment for my nephew. That alone was a battle. The Ed Psych wrote a brilliant report, made it clear that his learning difficulties are so significant that he cannot possibly sit GCSEs (his reading, vocabulary, maths etc assessed a 9yo - he's 15) and should not be in mainstream. He needs functional skills for semi-independent living. This was all accepted and an updated ehcp granted. Nothing has changed, they won't move him. They're telling him to revise for a mock GCSE exam he has no hope of sitting through and no hope of passing.

So sorry op, the system is very broken.

The lack of appropriate support and provision is shocking. And that’s before we even get to the parent blaming, gas lighting and ignoring. I couldn’t have imagined how hard this journey would be until I was on it.

Satanzlilhelpa · 19/06/2024 20:43

I'm crying. I'm really sorry for your relatives suffering in an unsuitable setting.

So sorry you’re having such a tough time getting what you need. I’m a big fan of the Charlotte hale parenting adhd guides- this” raising rebels “one is a really comforting read for anyone who has a child with ODD that constantly pushes boundaries or challenges authority. She seems to really get how exhausting and frustrating it can be, and this book made me feel less alone. It gave me a fresh take on my child’s behaviour and helped me approach things with a bit more patience instead of just reacting.
Xx
