AIBU ESTA and entry to US?

CherubEarrings · 19/06/2024 16:38

My grown up daughter was living with me when she went to US. She was denied entry to the US and deported. She was banned from US for 3 years and not allowed to apply for another ESTA. Her story was her ESTA form was incorrect. This happened pre-Covid.

Will this cause problems with my ESTA and entry to US? Have to book flights tomorrow but not due to travel for a few weeks.

Can't you just do your application now. Mine was back within an hour. That way you know whether to book flights or not.

Turtles4543 · 19/06/2024 16:40

Do the ESTA before you book the flight

FloridaBrit · 19/06/2024 16:41

Your daughter’s issues won't affect you at all. Each application is assessed on its own merits. A husband can be denied and a wife approved, for example, even though they live and travel together.

CherubEarrings · 19/06/2024 16:44

Thanks will do one tonight but worried it may not be back by tomorrow lunchtime which is the deadline for flights.

By the way, a three-year ban from the US and permanent ESTA ban is for overstaying, not incorrect info on the application. If she was just found to have incorrect info on her ESTA application and nothing more, then she would have been denied entry but would not have a three-year ban.

Today is a public holiday here in the US so there could be a delay if a manual review is needed.

I suspect I will never know the true story. She had a stamp in her passport with ban information.

If you pop your ESTA in now then hopefully you will get it through before needing to book flights.

I haven't ever known someone who is a family member being declined for an ESTA (even when they have declined family / family that need a visa) but it's probably dependent on what your daughter did.

fieldsofbutterflies · 19/06/2024 16:51

Her ESTA shouldn't impact you at all, but you've left doing yours quite late!

PinkyFlamingo · 19/06/2024 16:51

Why was she denied entry if she had an ESTA? That doesn't make sense. I wouldnt have thought it would affect you at all.

SofiaSoFar · 19/06/2024 16:53

If you do find out the truth about how she can got banned, can you update us?

I fucking detest having to work over there - pretty much monthly - and would love to not be able to go. 😂

(I preferred working in Karachi to having to work with American businesses!)

CherubEarrings · 19/06/2024 16:56

She was 20 when she went but looked 15. She is tiny and wears no makeup

She was interviewed and was sending messages via WhatsApp saying they thought she had been sex trafficked as she had quite a lot of savings. She was escorted onto her flight by security.

Unfortunately only just heard about the trip.

OP posts:
CherubEarrings · 19/06/2024 16:57

She said they thought she had lied on her ESTA about her occupation.

The airline check the validity of the ESTA before you get on the plane so I expect there is much more to the story than she is letting on.

Apply now - what do you have to lose?Ours have always come back within about 2 hours.

toomanytonotice · 19/06/2024 17:09

If you need a visa you won’t get one before September. Next appt in London is end July, plus 5 weeks processing.

so try the esta if you need to book flights soon.

GasPanic · 19/06/2024 17:25

Not sure how they would link you to your daughter.

I mean you have separate passports and everything.

Unless there is some question on the ESTA application along the lines of "has you or any of your family ever been refused entry to the US?"

L1ghtbulbmoment · 19/06/2024 17:29

ESTA is based on individual so no hers won't affect yours, however just get yours applied for, generally you get approval within an hour but if its your first time it can take up to 72hrs they last for a year and only need to be valid on entry not for the full length of stay.

It sounds like they thought she was planning on working there, was she going for a long time or without a return ticket?

How? It clearly says in the OP that she isn't travelling for another few weeks.

ESTAs are valid for 2 years.

Why?

Why on earth have you left it this late when you KNOW about issues with ESTAs?!!

Because I was only told today that I need to go to US. No warning. No run up.

Because you really shouldn't book flights until you have a valid ESTA, and OP is booking flights tomorrow?

PBandJ111 · 19/06/2024 18:06

Your dd is telling a few porkies.

Then get your esta and then book the flight. Problem solved.

Because whatever the reason you have for needing to go, you are going to be pretty useless if you turn up at the border and are refused entry!

Createausername1970 · 19/06/2024 18:10

No point booking flights till you get your ESTA. I did one a few months ago and I was sorted within a few hours.

Do it via the US homeland security website, not via BA or anyone else.
