Annoyed and disappointed about response to job application

Received a newly posted job alert on Monday morning. Applied immediately. The job looked perfect.

Yesterday (Tuesday) I had a missed call on my phone from a number I didn't recognise. No voicemail left. Googled the number and it was from the company I applied to. Checked my email in case they also tried contacting me, nothing from them.

Was unable to call back yesterday so called first thing this morning, went to voicemail so I left a message stating I was returning their missed call from yesterday. Also emailed them.

Few hours later received a text saying that they filled the job this morning.

So disappointed I missed their call yesterday as the job was a great opportunity for me 😞

What kind of job gets filled that quickly? Nothing that I can think of that would be desirable. You've dodged a bullet, move on.

Yes that's what I thought. Dodged a bullet. Just disappointed I didn't get an opportunity of an interview as I presume that's what they called about.

That sounds like a pretty crap company to work for tbh!

In three days they’ve advertised, interviewed and appointed???

AGodawfulsmallaffair · 19/06/2024 18:33

Sounds like they gave the job to an internal applicant and any interview would have been a waste of time.

Yes, on the face of it.

Wonder why they called me the day after I applied, but didn't leave a message or send an email Confused

Pretty shitty job market out there. It takes months to find a job in many professions now. This is a useless result of the Tory gov that suppose to minimise taxes on rich to help to create jobs

My dear, I am making a point that there a lot a lot of candidates on the market. Not a candidate market at the moment. The jobs are snapped very quickly.

I used to work in recruitment and there was a company which would fax (back in the day) when they were recruiting with bare bones of information, no salary details and "send us your 3 best candidates". They wouldn't answer calls trying to elicit more details so I wouldn't send them anything. It's a two way process. They were just the kind of company I could imagine ringing people then striking them off if they didn't answer the phone!

My guess is they'd already made an offer and what you saw was their back up plan.
